This pie is very rich, and has been in our family for many years.

Number Of Ingredients 6

½ cup margarine, melted
1 ½ cups white sugar
4 eggs
1 tablespoon distilled white vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (9 inch) pie shell

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, beat eggs well. Mix in sugar and margarine. Blend in vinegar and vanilla extract. Pour filling into pie shell.
  • Bake at 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) until pie starts to brown. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and continue to bake for about 25 minutes.

Maysville's Historic Transparent Pie - My Country Table image

This wonderful rich pie has a smooth transparent custardy filling that has a slight sweet eggy taste. It's to die for!

Provided by @MakeItYours

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 stick butter, melted
2 cups sugar
1 cup heavy whipping cream
4 eggs, beaten
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 unbaked 9" (deep dish) pie shell or 2 unbaked 9" (shallow) pie shells*

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Place the butter and sugar in the mixing bowl of a stand mixer, or use a hand mixer. Mix together on medium speed for a couple of minutes.
  • Add the whipping cream and mix on high speed for about two minutes until the cream has started to slightly thicken and the mixture is light and fluffy.
  • Add the beaten eggs, vanilla and flour and mix well.
  • Pour the batter into unbaked pie shell'(s) and cover the edges of the crust with foil.
  • Bake for about 45 minutes until the top is golden brown and no longer jiggly in the center.
  • Cool completely before serving.
