WITCH FINGER COOKIES

Witch Finger Cookies image

Go all out this Halloween with this spooky Witch Finger Cookies from Food Network.

Provided by Giada De Laurentiis

Categories     dessert

Time 2h

Yield 28 finger cookies

Number Of Ingredients 10

Vegetable oil cooking spray
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon fine salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 large egg, at room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
28 large sliced almonds
1/2 cup raspberry jam

Steps:

  • Place an oven rack in the center of the oven. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Spray a rimmed baking sheet with vegetable oil cooking spray or line with a silicone baking mat. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, scraping down the sides of the bowl with a spatula as needed, about 2 to 3 minutes. Beat in the egg and vanilla until smooth. Gradually beat in the flour mixture until a dough forms.
  • Using about1 1/2 tablespoons of dough at a time, roll the dough between your palms into 5-inch-long fingers about 1/2-inch thick. Firmly press a sliced almond into the end of each finger to make fingernails. Make several horizontal cuts, about 1/4 inch deep and 1/2 inch long, in the center of each finger to make knuckles. Press the dough on either side of the cuts to shape the knuckles. Arrange the fingers on the prepared baking sheet and bake until light golden, 16 to 18 minutes. Transfer the fingers to a wire rack and cool completely.
  • In a small saucepan, heat the jam over low heat until warm, about 2 minutes. Dip the blunt ends of the fingers in the warm jam and arrange on a platter.

GIANT WITCH COOKIES

Giant Witch Cookies image

Bake and decorate these giant witch cookies for and get into the Halloween spirit!

Provided by Betty Crocker Kitchens

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h20m

Yield 10

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 cup sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups Gold Medal™ flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 container Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy vanilla frosting
3 or 4 drops green food color
3 or 4 drops yellow food color
1 container Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy chocolate frosting
Assorted candies for decorating, as desired

Steps:

  • In large bowl, beat sugar and butter with electric mixer on medium speed until creamy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Divide dough in half; wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate 1 hour for easier handling.
  • Heat oven to 375°F. Line cookie sheets with cooking parchment paper. Shape half of dough into 10 (1 1/2-inch) balls. On parchment-lined cookie sheets, pat each ball of dough into 4-inch circle, using floured fingers if necessary. Place 2 or 3 circles on each cookie sheet, about 9 inches apart.
  • On floured surface, divide remaining half of dough into 2 portions. Roll each portion into 9x6-inch rectangle. Cut each rectangle into 4 whole triangles and 2 half triangles (see diagram). Press 2 half triangles together to form fifth whole triangle. Cut 1/2-inch strip from top edge of each dough circle on cookie sheet; set aside. Place triangle over each cut edge of circle, covering 1/4 inch of cut edge; press to seal, aligning edge of triangle with edge of circle. Slightly bend point of "hat" if desired. Roll each 1/2-inch strip into 2 (1-inch) ropes; attach to either side of "hat" for brim.
  • Bake 7 to 11 minutes or until edges of cookies are golden and surfaces look dry. With broad metal pancake turner, remove cookies from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.
  • Tint vanilla frosting green with green and yellow food colors. Spread on circles for witches' faces. Spread chocolate frosting on hats. Make faces using candies.

MELTED SNOWMAN COOKIE

Melted SnowMan Cookie image

This adorable sugar cookie is super easy and the kids love it.

Provided by tarah.williams

Categories     Desserts     Cookies     Sugar Cookies

Time 1h55m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 14

¾ cup butter, softened
¾ cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
12 large marshmallows
3 cups confectioners' sugar
¼ cup water
½ cup chocolate chips
1 drop red food coloring, or as desired
1 drop yellow food coloring, or as desired

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Beat butter in a bowl using an electric mixer until fluffy, about 2 minutes. Beat white sugar, baking powder, and salt into butter until just combined. Beat egg, milk, and vanilla extract into butter-sugar mixture; add flour and mix until dough is just combined. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate until dough is slightly chilled, about 10 minutes.
  • Scoop dough into balls slightly larger than golf balls; flatten into cookies. Arrange cookies on a baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until edges are golden brown, 10 to 20 minutes. Cool on baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely, at least 30 minutes.
  • Butter a microwave-safe plate. Place marshmallows on the prepared plate.
  • Microwave marshmallows until slightly puffed, 10 to 15 seconds. Gently press marshmallows until bottoms slightly ooze.
  • Whisk confectioners' sugar and water together in a bowl until icing is slightly thicker than drizzle-consistency. Pour icing over cookies so it runs over the edges, reserving about 1 tablespoon.
  • Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl, about 30 seconds. Pour melted chocolate into a piping bag with a small tip or a plastic bag with a corner snipped.
  • Press 1 marshmallow close to an edge of each cookie to be the snowman's head. Draw 'stick arms' onto the icing using the melted chocolate.
  • Divide the reserved 1 tablespoon icing into 2 small bowls. Mix red food coloring into 1 of the bowls and orange food coloring into the other bowl. Decorate the snowmen with scarves or ties using the red icing and yellow icing.
