Mushroom Swiss Burgers image

These skillet burgers from Mrs. James Bowles of Ironton, Ohio are perfect cold weather food. Heaping with mushrooms and the wonderful flavor of Swiss cheese, these burgers really deliver. This recipe is sure to become a family favorite.

1-1/2 pounds ground beef
1 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
1 cup water
6 slices Swiss cheese
6 hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • Shape beef into six patties. In a large skillet, cook patties over medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 160° and juices run clear. Remove to paper towels; drain, reserving 2 tablespoons drippings. Saute mushrooms in drippings until tender. , Meanwhile, in a microwave-safe bowl, combine soup and water. Cover and microwave on high for 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 minutes or until heated through. , Return patties to the skillet. Stir in soup mixture. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 3 minutes. , Top each patty with a slice of cheese. Remove from the heat; cover and let stand until cheese is melted. Serve on buns topped with mushrooms.

This is a great way to spice up an ordinary hamburger. Not only can this be done on the grill, but pan fried if desired. Too good not to try!!

1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
½ teaspoon seasoned meat tenderizer
salt and pepper to taste
2 teaspoons butter
2 (4 ounce) cans sliced mushrooms, drained
2 tablespoons soy sauce
4 slices Swiss cheese
6 hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Prepare a grill for medium heat. Lightly oil the grate.
  • Divide the ground beef into 6 patties. Season with meat tenderizer, salt and pepper. Set aside.
  • Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and soy sauce; cook and stir until browned. Set aside and keep warm.
  • Grill the patties for about 6 minutes per side, or until cooked through. Divide the mushroom mixture evenly amongst the burgers and top each one with a slice of Swiss cheese. Cover the grill for about 1 minute to allow the cheese to melt. Remove from the grill and serve on hamburger buns.

4+ BIG mushrooms - like portobello, BBQ flat mushrooms ((20% larger than buns, or buy multiple per burger) (Note 1))
30g / 2 tbsp unsalted butter
2 garlic cloves (, finely minced)
1/2 tsp each salt and pepper
1/2 tbsp olive oil
4 slices swiss cheese ((or any other cheese slice of choice))
3 onions (, cut into 0.7cm / 1/3" rings)
1 tbsp olive oil
1/4 tsp each salt and pepper
2/3 cup mayonnaise (or sour cream + pinch of salt)
2 tbsp ketchup
1 - 3 tsp Sriracha ((adjust spiciness to taste))
4 buns or rolls ((I like brioche))
8 - 12 lettuce leaves
2 tomatoes
French fries
Baked potato wedges

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 220°C/450°F (200°F fan).
  • Garlic butter: Place butter, garlic, salt and pepper in a heatproof jug. Microwave to melt butter, then stir.
  • Brush with butter: Brush the mushroom cap with butter (smooth side), then place on a tray gills side up (ie stalk facing up). Brush remaining butter onto the rims and gills, being sure to scrape up all the garlic in the jug.
  • Olive oil: Drizzle with olive oil.
  • Roast 25 minutes, then flip mushrooms. Brush with tay juices, roast a further 10 minutes or until the centre of the mushrooms are tender. {Meanwhile, cook onion, mix Sauce)
  • Top with cheese: Place a slice of cheese on each mushroom, return to oven for 3 minutes just to melt the cheese.
  • Toast buns: Place split buns in the oven at the same time - to lightly toast.

2 bacon strips, finely chopped
2 cups chopped fresh mushrooms
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped sweet red pepper
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
2 pounds lean ground beef (90% lean)
2 tablespoons steak sauce
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
4 slices provolone cheese, halved
8 kaiser rolls, split

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp, stirring occasionally. Remove with a slotted spoon; drain on paper towels. Cook and stir mushrooms, onion and peppers in bacon drippings until tender. Using slotted spoon, remove to a small bowl; cool completely. Stir in bacon., In a large bowl, combine beef, steak sauce and seasoned salt, mixing lightly but thoroughly. Shape into 16 thin patties. Top eight of the patties with cheese, folding cheese to fit within 3/4 inch of edge. Spread with mushroom mixture. Top with remaining patties, pressing edges to enclose filling., Grill burgers, uncovered, over medium-high heat or broil 4 in. from heat 5-6 minutes on each side or until a thermometer inserted in meat portion reads 160°. Here's what you need: ground beef patties, burger buns, heavy cream, white wine, red onion, mushroom, black figs, salt and pepper mix

2 ground beef patties
2 burger buns
7 oz heavy cream
4 cups white wine
red onion, diced
3 cups mushroom
2 black figs, sliced
salt and pepper mix, to taste

Steps:

  • For the sauce: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add red onion and sauté for 1-2 minutes. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for another 2-3 minutes. Season with salt.
  • Add white wine and cream to deglaze the mushrooms. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
  • For the burgers: Cook patties on the BBQ or stovetop until cooked through and toast the buns.
  • Slice the figs.
  • Top the patties with mushroom sauce and sliced fig and place in the buns.

1/3 cup shredded swiss cheese

Steps:

  • Heat butter in nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add mushrooms and onion; cook and stir 4 minutes or until mushrooms have softened. Cool completely.
  • Mix ground beef and hamburger seasoning. Measure twelve (1/4 cup) portions of beef. Shape into thin 4-inch round patties. Place about 1 tablespoon each of the mushroom mixture and cheese in cente of each of 6 patties. Top with remaining hamburger patties, pinching edges to seal filling. If necessary, lightly flatten with spatula.
  • Grill over medium heat 4 to 6 mintes per side or until burgers are cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F).
  • Serve burgers on toasted rolls. Garnish with desired condiments and toppings.

  • First step is to caramelize the onions. This takes a little time, but it's well worth it. Spray a large skillet with cooking spray and place all onions in the skillet. Turn heat to low/ medium setting. Just hot enough to brown the onions a little, but do not let them get blackened. You can add a little salt as you stir, but just a pinch. Add tbsp. of water if they start to get too dry. Keep stirring the onions every 10 minutes until they are golden brown and sweet tasting. Add the mushrooms to the onions and cook until the mushrooms are cooked through and about half the size they were. Add the Golden Mushroom Soup at this point and let the mixture simmer while you prepare the burgers.
  • To prepare the burgers you will first separate the meat into 4 parts. Then split the parts in half. Use one half to form the bottom part of the patty. Then on top of the bottom half... lay a slice of Swiss cheese that has been cut a little to strips so that you can add it to just the middle. Then lay the other half of the beef on top of that and form the patty with the Swiss cheese inside. Form all patties this way. Cook on medium high heat until the inside temp reaches the safe point for ground beef.
  • Once the meat is finished cooking then layer on the meat and then the onion and mushroom sauce to the top. I let the sauce drip off the sides because it's so good! Then it's ready to enjoy!
