FLATBREAD PIZZA WITH BEEF, MUSHROOM, AND CARAMELIZED ONIONS



Flatbread Pizza with Beef, Mushroom, and Caramelized Onions image

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 flatbread or lavash pieces (10-12 inches long)
1 large or 2 medium garlic (diced)
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (plus more for sprinkling)
1 cup sweet onion (sliced 1/4-inch tick)
1 cup sliced mushroom
1 tablespoon butter
1 1/2 teaspoons fresh thyme
1 cup thinly sliced (seasoned, rare deli roast beef)
Olive Oil

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 550° F or as high as your oven will go.
  • Over medium low heat, caramelize the onions in the butter until soft and golden brown.
  • Using tongs, remove the onion to a paper towel-lined, leaving as much butter behind in the pan as possible.
  • Add the mushrooms to the hot pan and brown.
  • Then add the thyme to the mushrooms and stir to heat.
  • Turn off the flame and begin assembling the flatbread pizzas on a section of parchment paper.
  • Brush olive oil over the tops of the flatbread pieces, being careful to reach to the edges.
  • Spread half of the diced garlic over each, distributing evenly.
  • Sprinkle 1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella over each.
  • Then layer the onion and mushrooms.
  • Drop half slices of the roast beef in small piles.
  • Sprinkle some more mozzarella lightly over the roast beef.
  • Lift the parchment paper with the assembled flatbread pizzas onto a cookie sheet.
  • Place on the middle rack of the pre-heated oven.
  • Bake until the cheese is melted and begins to turn golden brown, and the bread edges are becoming crispy, about 2-3 minutes
  • Remove from the oven and place on a cutting board.
  • Rest for about 3-5 minutes, then slice and serve.

1 large flatbread pizza crust
1 ½ c. Gruyere Cheese, shredded
14 oz. shaved beef
1 tbsp. Olive oil
4 oz. mushrooms, sliced
½ c. green onion, sliced
Topping: French fried crispy onions
1 c. sour cream
2. Tbsp. Silver Spring Foods Cream Style Horseradish
2 tsp. White vinegar
Salt to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 Degrees. Place flatbread pizza crust on large baking sheet or pizza pan. Set aside.
  • Using a medium skillet and turn onto medium-high heat. Add a tablespoon of olive oil. Add the shaved beef and season with salt and pepper. Cook just until the beef has turned brown, 5-7 minutes. It will cook more in the oven. Place the beef on a plate and set aside. Using the same pan, cook the mushrooms about 2-3 minutes.
  • Sprinkle about ½ cup of Gruyere cheese on top of the flatbread crust. Sprinkle the cooked beef evenly across the flatbread crust along with the mushrooms, and sprinkle about a ⅓ cup of the green onions on top and the remaining cheese. Place in the oven for 12-15 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with remaining green onion.
  • While the pizza is baking, add the sour cream, Horseradish, vinegar, and season with salt to taste and mix. Drizzle the horseradish cream on top of the pizza as desired. Finally, sprinkle crispy onions on top of the pizza and serve.
  • Note: I put the horseradish cream in a sandwich bag and cut a small tip at the end and drizzled the cream across the pizza that way.

My husband wanted something a little different for pizza night tonight. He wanted a pizza with beef and onions, and maybe a few mushrooms. It sounded to me like he might have been inspired by steak & mushroom pie (especially considering he'd just been to the British import shop & bakery!). So here is my interpretation!

Number Of Ingredients 13

4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
8 ounces sliced mushrooms
2 medium onions, thinly sliced
1 garlic clove, minced
salt, to taste
fresh ground pepper, to taste
1/4 teaspoon fresh thyme
1 -2 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
3/4 lb beef sirloin steak, cut into strips
1 -2 tablespoon flour
1 (12 inch) prepared pizza crust (not prebaked)
1/2 cup pizza sauce (or to taste)
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or to taste)

Steps:

  • Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions, mushrooms, and garlic and saute 1-2 minutes, or until starting to release juices. Add salt, pepper, thyme, and balsamic vinegar and stir-fry until onions are just turning brown, about 10 minutes. Remove from pan and set aside.
  • In same skillet, heat remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil. Add beef strips and stir-fry until browned, about 4-5 minutes. Add mushroom mixture back to skillet and cook until heated through. Add enough flour to thicken juices. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Meanwhile, heat oven to 400* F. Spread pizza dough out into a 12 inch circle in a greased pizza pan. Bake at 400* F for about 10 minutes, or until just turning pale golden.
  • Spread sauce over crust. Top with about 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese (use more if desired). Place beef mixture evenly over cheese. Top with remaining mozzarella.
  • Return to oven and bake at 400* F for another 10-12 minutes, or until cheese is melted with golden brown spots.

Here's what you need: pizza dough, bunapi mushroom bunch, medium oyster mushrooms, olive oil, beef flat iron steak, Grill Mates® Montreal Steak Seasoning, shredded mozzarella cheese, shredded parmesan cheese, McCormick® Dried Parsley

1 lb pizza dough
1 bunapi mushroom bunch, roots trimmed
3 medium oyster mushrooms
½ cup olive oil, divided
¼ lb beef flat iron steak
1 ½ tablespoons Grill Mates® Montreal Steak Seasoning, plus more for garnish
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
⅓ cup shredded parmesan cheese
½ teaspoon McCormick® Dried Parsley

Steps:

  • Preheat the grill to 350°F (180°C).
  • Roll the pizza dough out to ½ inch (1.24 cm) thick in your desired shape and place on a baking sheet. Brush ¼ cup (60 ml) olive oil over both sides of the dough.
  • Break apart the bunapi and oyster mushrooms into thick chunks. Transfer to a small bowl and toss with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and ½ tablespoon Grill Mates® Montreal Steak Seasoning.
  • Slice the flat iron steak into ½-inch-thick strips. Transfer to a medium bowl and toss with 1½ tablespoons of olive oil and the remaining 1 tablespoon Grill Mates® Montreal Steak Seasoning.
  • Arrange the steak strips on one side of the grill. Cook until light pink in the center, 3-4 minutes per side. Arrange the mushrooms on the other side of the grill and cook until lightly browned around the edges and tender, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer the steak and mushrooms to a cutting board. Break apart some of the mushrooms and chop the steak strips into smaller, bite-size pieces.
  • Place the oiled pizza dough directly on the grill grates. Close the lid and grill for about 4 minutes, until the bottom is light browned and cooked through. Flip the pizza dough and sprinkle with the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Scatter the mushrooms and steak on top of the cheese. Sprinkle with more Grill Mates® Montreal Steak Seasoning. Close the lid and cook for another 5 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the pizza dough is cooked through.
  • Remove the flatbread from the grill and top with the McCormick® Dried Parsley and remaining ½ tablespoon olive oil. Serve immediately.

1 lb sirloin steak
1 lb sliced cremini mushroom
12 ounces artichoke hearts
1 (8 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
2 prepared pizza crust
8 ounces Fontina cheese
1 teaspoon oregano
2 tablespoons sherry wine
marinade
1 ounce red wine vinegar
2 ounces olive oil
1 ounce soy sauce
1 teaspoon chopped garlic
1 teaspoon oregano

Steps:

  • Combine all marinade ingredients in a zip-lock baggie and add steak. Marinate in fridge for 2-4 hours, turning once or twice.
  • Preheat oven to 425. Saute mushrooms in a small glug of olive oil for a minute, add the garlic, another minute, add the artichoke hearts (chopped up into pizza siza bites) and saute another minute, add the cream of mushroom soup undiluted, another minute and season to taste. Finish it off with some sherry or Saki or whatever wine you like (or don't). The result ought to be fairly thick to hold together on the pie while cooking. Set off to the side.
  • Slice the steak into bite size cubes, and saute to medium rare. While cooking the steak, I like to fry up the pizza crust a little bit to give it a little crispiness. Slide it onto your stone or baking pan, top with half the mushroom mix and half the steak, top with half of the cheese, and bake for 12-14 minutes.
  • Repeat w second crust.
