Weed Killer At Half The Price Of Round Up Recipes

This is one of my favorite recipes out of my Best-Ever Casseroles cookbook. It's basically a southwestern chili topped with a cornbread crust. I think the key is the type of cornbread mix you use. I use Firenza Traditional Sweet Cornbread mix. It is the best cornbread mix ever!!! It's hard to find in the grocery store, but it can be ordered online at www.great-recipes.com. It's not cheap, but it is worth every penny ($5.00/box). One box is perfect if you double the recipe and use a very large skillet, just make sure to prepare the cornbread per the instructions on the box. It makes great leftovers.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef
2 red peppers, cut into 2-inch squares (I prefer to dice them)
1/4 cup onion, chopped
15 ounces can baked beans
1 tablespoon fajita seasoning mix
8 1/2 ounces cornbread mix
1 egg
1/3 cup milk

Steps:

Combine ground beef, peppers and onion in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat; heat and stir until beef is browned and onion is translucent. Drain.
Add beans and fajita seasoning; heat through, stirring frequently. Spread out evenly in skillet; set aside.
Mix cornbread with egg and milk according to package directions. spread evenly over ground beef mixture in skillet; place skillet in the oven. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cornbread layer comes out clean.
Let cool slightly before serving; cut into wedges. Serves 6.

This is really good for between patio stones or rock areas that tend to sprout weeds. Do not use it on your lawn. The weeds will grow back but then just spray them again

EASY WEED KILLER

Our HOA is a stickler about grass/weeds in the expansion joints of the driveway, but I am extremely leery of herbicides (or any commercial 'cide'). This easy mixture is also safe enough to let my 10 yr old help out when we are sprucing up the yard! How many lawn care products can say that?!? =)

Ingredients

1 cup rock salt
2 cups warm water

Steps:

Combine ingredients.
Stir, agitate, swirl, etc until salt is dissolved.
Put in spray bottle & mist away!
Note: Don't mist it if you don't want it dead. Weeds shrivel & brown in 2-3 days. I've also used ice cream type salt with no noticeable change in effectiveness.
Easily increased using 1 part salt/2 parts water.
As always, keep away from small children who may be young enough to ingest it. (Eww!).

This weed killer is non-discriminatory....it kills what it is sprayed on, so be careful where you spray it. The good thing about this is that it is easy to make and very economical. Make sure you label it and store it out of the hands of inquisitive children. If you spray this multiple times in the same spot, nothing will grow there for a very long time....perfect for cracks in your driveway and in sidewalks.

Ingredients

2 cups table salt
1 gallon white vinegar (make sure it has 5 percent acidity)
8 drops liquid dishwashing soap, preferably Dawn

Steps:

Mix this up in a large container and then put some in a spray bottle.
Spray the offending weed or vegetation. It should die in a couple of days.
Make sure you put your homemade round-up in a safe place.
Enjoy your weed-free area!
