CLASSIC CHEESE BALL

Classic Cheese Ball image

Served alongside boozy martinis, this is the classic cheese ball of yesteryear, perfect for retro-chic parties.

Categories     Cheese     Appetizer     Hors D'Oeuvre     snack     Entertaining     Cocktail Party     Cream Cheese     Brie     Pecan

Number Of Ingredients 9

8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 ounce Brie cheese, rind removed
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 to 1/2 tsp hot sauce, or to taste
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
6 ounces toasted pecans

Steps:

  • Combine the cream cheese, cheddar, Brie, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder in a bowl. With an electric mixer, beat on medium speed until incorporated. Add the parsley and continue to beat on low speed until just combined. Form the mixture into a ball and refrigerate until set.
  • While the cheese ball sets, coarsely chop the pecans and spread on a rimmed plate.
  • About 30 minutes before serving, remove the cheese ball from the fridge. Roll the ball in the pecans, pressing them firmly to the ball, until completely covered. Let soften at room temperature for 30 minutes. Serve.

OLD SCHOOL CHEESE BALL

Old School Cheese Ball image

Gotta love this recipe. . .totally from a past generation, but not forgotten. I make this frequently and got the recipe from a co-worker named Karen about 8 years ago. Simple, yet a crowd-pleaser; the kids will even eat it! I have frozen this cheese ball with great results, so feel free to make 1 for now and 1 for later - just don't roll it in nuts until it has been thawed out.

Provided by januarybride

Categories     < 15 Mins

Time 10m

Yield 15 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese (not low fat or non-fat because it needs to be thick)
1 (5 ounce) jar Kraft Old English cheese spread (sometimes I add an extra jar of this and make it into 2 balls)
1 (5 ounce) jar Kraft roka blue spread
1 teaspoon garlic powder (or more to taste)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Let all three cheeses get to room temperature.
  • With a blender, mix together all ingredients EXCEPT the nuts.
  • Shape into 1 or 2 balls (I always do 2 so that there are more nuts to go around).
  • Roll each cheese ball in nuts, place on a piece of waxed paper and put in the fridge to set up.
  • Serve with buttery crackers on the side.

1950'S CHEESE BALL

1950's Cheese Ball image

This recipe was in a Beaumont, Texas, utility company Christmas recipe leaflet from 1951. We've been making it in our family ever since then. I broke many a wooden spoon over the years trying to mix it all together - now the food processor makes it a snap to mix in 15 minutes or less!

Provided by Nancy Helpinstill @quatrocats

Categories     Cheese Appetizers

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 - 8 oz package(s) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
4 ounce(s) softened cream cheese
1/2 cup(s) mayonnaise
3 - green onions, roughly chopped
2-3 teaspoon(s) minced garlic
1/4 cup(s) sweet pickle relish
1 small jar(s) diced pimento
1/2 cup(s) chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients except cheddar in bowl of food processor until smooth. Add cheddar and pulse until well combined. Chill at least overnight in plastic container (a Cool Whip container is a perfect fit) that has been sprayed with Pam. After chilling, unmold and cover top with chopped parsley or nuts. Allow to come to room temperature before serving to be able to spread on crackers. (P.S. After years of experimenting, we find the perfect cracker complement is Nabisco Sociables!)

  • Brie and Cranberry Cheese Ball. Hello, is it Brie you're looking for? This festive cheese ball with dried cranberries, Brie, and cream cheese is perfect for bringing to holiday parties and office potlucks to spread on crackers or baguette slices.
  • Celebration Cheese Ball With Pecans. Can we celebrate with a cheese ball? Yes, pecan. Cheddar and cream cheese get a lift from onion and garlic and a crunch from pecans in this game-day and holiday favorite that's rolled in chopped nuts.
  • Bacon and Fig Cheese Ball. Here's a recipe that combines two classic flavors into one cheesy (in a good way.) appetizer. Fig jam, crispy crumbled bacon, scallions, cheddar, and cream cheese combine to form a spread that's great for all of your festive gatherings, from holiday brunches to bridal showers.
  • Pineapple Cheese Ball. Say aloha to a cheese ball packed with tropical flavor. Crushed pineapples add sweetness, while chopped green bell pepper and green onion lend texture and freshness.
  • Bacon and Smoked Gouda Cheese Ball. Think you can keep your party guests from demolishing this nut-free party cheese ball? Gouda luck. Yes, you guessed it—it's made with smoked Gouda, plus cream cheese, and a few other easy-to-find ingredients.
  • Greek Cheese Ball. Enjoy a Greek getaway without even leaving the couch. Rich Kalamata olives, salty feta, fresh green peppers, and creamy Greek yogurt are just a few of the treasures you'll find inside.
  • Blue Cheese Ball. You won't feel blue once you get a taste of this classic party spread. Simply form a cheese ball out of blended blue cheese crumbles, cream cheese, and black olives, then cover with walnuts and snipped fresh chives.
  • Jalapeno Peach Cheese Ball of Darkness. Don't be afraid of the cheese ball. This chillingly good Halloween starter is coated in black sesame seeds for a dark and creepy look, but sweetness lurks inside in the form of fruit preserves added to the cream cheese filling.
  • Vegan Party Cheese Ball. Move on over, dairy—there's a new "cheese" ball in town. This vegan appetizer gets its creamy texture from a blended mixture of soaked cashews, nutritional yeast, and vegan cream cheese, with lemon and a few spices added for flavor.
  • Festive Party Cheese Ball with Pecans. This retro appetizer is made from a simple combination of cheeses that are shaped into a festive ball, then rolled in finely chopped pecans.

  • Use a rubber spatula to scrape the sides of the bowl and gather the mixture into one lump. Lightly grease your hands and form the mixture into a round ball.
  • Place the pecans on a plate. Hold the cheese ball in one hand and use the other hand to scoop the pecans onto the outside of the ball, pressing them in gently and turning the ball to coat all sides.
  • Cover the cheeseball in cling wrap and refrigerate for about 1 hour to allow it to firm up. Take it out of the refrigerator about 20 minutes before serving to allow it to soften just slightly. Serve with crackers, pretzels, vegetables or anything else you'd love to dip in cheese!
