1/2 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
1 1/2 cups water
1 (16 ounce) can kidney beans, undrained
1 (8 ounce) can whole kernel corn, drained
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 teaspoon chili powder

Steps:

  • In a soup pot, brown ground beef and onion over medium heat 5 to 7 minutes. Add remaining ingredients; mix thoroughly.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes, or until thoroughly heated.

I find that this soup works best with only the chili macaroni flavor Hambuger Helper. This is a hearty soup that should be served as a main meal, with recipe#105726 or crusty buns on the side! Adust the chili powder and chili flakes to suit taste.

1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2 tablespoons minced fresh garlic (or to taste)
1 small green bell pepper, seeded and finely chopped
2 tablespoons chili (or to taste)
2 -4 teaspoons dryed chili flakes (or to taste)
1 -2 teaspoon cumin (or to taste)
1 jalapeno pepper (seeded and finly chopped) (optional)
5 cups chicken broth (or use 3 cups broth and 2 cups water, or use all water)
1 (220 g) package Hamburger Helper mix for beef pasta (use Chili-Macaroni flavor for this)
1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes (undrained)
1 (8 ounce) can corn niblets (undrained)
1/3 cup sliced and black olives (or to taste)
salt and black pepper
sour cream (optional)

Steps:

  • In a pot cook the macaroni from the Hambuger Helper package in boiling water until just al dente; drain and set aside.
  • In a large pot cook the ground beef with onion, garlic and bell pepper until no longer pink; drain fat.
  • Add in chili powder, cumin, dryed chili flakes and jalapeno pepper (if using) cook stirring for about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add in broth powdered sauce mix from the Hamburger Helper and tomatoes with juice; cook uncovered over medium-low heat stirring occasionally for about 45 minutes (can simmer longer if desired the longer you simmer the soup uncovered the richer it will be!).
  • Add in the cooked macaroni, undrained corn and olives, season with salt and pepper and simmer another 10 minutes or until heated through.
  • Ladle into bowls and dollup with sour cream if desired.

This is a recipe we use for the Sioux Center Christian School soup supper. It is designed to be easy and relatively inexpensive.

3 pounds ground beef
1 ½ cups chopped onion
2 potatoes, cubed
4 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans
4 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed tomato soup
8 cups tomato juice
3 teaspoons chili powder
8 cups water
salt to taste

Steps:

  • In a large pot over medium heat, combine the ground beef and onions. Saute for 5 minutes, or until meat is browned. Drain excess fat and add the potatoes, beans, tomato soup, tomato juice, chili powder, water and salt to taste. Bring just to a boil and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 1 hour and serve.

This is more of a soup than a thick chili. It is meaty and wonderful on a fall day. The cooking time is flexible. I have served it after an hour and have also cooked it several hours. It tastes best when simmered at least 3 hours. Freezes well.

3 -4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 onion, diced
1 (15 ounce) can black beans
1 lb ground chuck, cooked and drained
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 1/2 cups beef stock
1 (30 ounce) can tomato sauce
30 ounces water, use sauce can to measure
1 tablespoon hot chili powder
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3 1/2 cups vegetable juice or 3 1/2 cups tomato juice

Steps:

  • In large pot over medium high heat, saute in olive oil: cooked bacon, onion, and cooked meat until onions soften (about 3 or 4 minutes).
  • Add garlic and spices, saute two more minutes.
  • Add everything else. Simmer a few hours.

There's minimal prep time to make this hearty vegetarian stew, which works just as well as an easy dinner or packed in a flask for lunch

1 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 tbsp tomato purée
1 tsp mild chilli powder
½ tsp ground cumin
400g can chopped tomatoes
500ml vegetable stock
400g can mixed beans, drained and rinsed
1 red pepper, cut into chunky dice
tortilla chips, to serve
4 limes wedges, to serve

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a deep saucepan and fry the chopped onion over a medium heat until tender. Add the garlic and tomato purée, stirring for 1-2 mins until combined. Sprinkle in the spices and cook for another 1 min.
  • Tip in the chopped tomatoes, half fill the can with water, and add to the pan. Pour in the stock and simmer on a medium heat for 10-15 mins, uncovered. Season, then whizz using a hand blender until smooth. Add the beans and red pepper, and cook for another 15 mins until the pepper is tender.
  • Serve in bowls topped with a small pile of tortilla chips and a lime wedge.

2 pounds ground beef
6 cups water
3 (14-ounce) cans tomato juice
For quart jar, double the ingredient amounts.

Steps:

  • Place the kidney, navy, and black beans in a medium-sized bowl, cover with 6 cups boiling water, and soak 8 hours or overnight. In a medium-sized pot, brown the ground beef. Drain and rinse the soaked beans, and add them to the pot with 6 cups fresh water and contents of the seasoning packet. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until the beans are tender. Stir the soup occasionally as it simmers. Add the tomato juice and return to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer another 15 minutes. Serve hot. Refrigerate any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS
2 pounds ground beef
6 cups water
3 (14-ounce) cans tomato juice

Steps:

  • 1. Place the kidney, navy, and black beans in a medium-sized bowl or pot. Cover with 6 cups boiling water, cover, and soak 8 hours or overnight. 2. Coat a medium-sized pot or Dutch oven with cooking spray, and preheat over medium-high heat. Add the beef, and cook, stirring constantly for 4 minutes, or until no pink remains. Steps:

  • Add beef fat to electric fry pan over medium heat. When hot, add tomato paste and cook stirring constantly for 2 minutes. Combine Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, sugar, salt, Paprika and Chili Powder in a small bowl, mix. Add to fat/tomato paste mixture and cook for 30 sec to bloom the spices. Mix in rest of ingredients, mashing about half of the pinto beans as you do so, heating on low until evenly melted.
