These easy Air Fryer Apple Hand Pies have a gooey apple pie filling and flaky crust. Portable, delicious, no slicing, and little mess!

14.1 ounce refrigerated package pie crust
1/2 can (21 ounce) apple pie filling
1 large egg
water
3 teaspoons turbinado sugar
Caramel sauce ( for dipping, optional (

Steps:

  • Remove pie crusts from packaging and allow to come to room temperature, per package instructions.
  • Cut the pie crusts into 5-inch circles using a cookie cutter.
  • Place two slices of apples from the apple pie filling onto the pie crusts on the bottom half of the crust. With a little water on the tip of your finger, moisten the outside edges of the pie crust. Fold dough over filling to form half-moons; pinch the edges of the crust together, then crimp edges with a fork to seal.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the egg with a splash of water. Brush the pies with the egg wash all over the tops.
  • Sprinkle ½ teaspoon of the coarse sugar over each pie.
  • Make three slits in the crust on the top of the pies.
  • Preheat the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes. Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Place 2 pies in the basket at a time and air fry for about 10 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and filling is bubbling. Carefully remove and transfer to a wire rack to cool. Repeat with remaining pies. (If your air fryer basket is large, you can cook more than 2 at a time as long as they are not touching at all.)
  • Serve with caramel sauce for dipping!

1 (14 oz.) package refrigerated pie crust ((see note))
1 (21 oz.) can pie filling, any kind ((see note))
1 large egg
1 teaspoon water
Coarse sugar ((granulated sugar is fine, too))

Steps:

  • Preheat air fryer to 350°F for 5 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, roll out pie crusts to 13-14 inch circles. Use a 3½ to 4-inch round biscuit cutter to cut 6 to 7 rounds out of each one (see note). Re-roll scraps to to make 1-2 more rounds.
  • Top half of the rounds with a tablespoon of pie filling, if using a pie filling with big pieces such as apple or peach, you'll want to chop it up a bit first.
  • Lightly moisten the edges of the filled pie crusts with water (use your fingertip dipped in water). Place the remaining pie rounds on top of the filled ones and use a fork to press the edges together to seal.
  • In a small bowl, beat together the egg and water to make an egg wash. Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the tops of the pies with egg wash; sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  • Cook pies for 6 to 7 minutes until the tops are a golden brown.

4 tablespoons butter
6 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 medium Granny Smith apples, diced
1 teaspoon cornstarch
2 teaspoons cold water
½ (14 ounce) package pastry for a 9-inch double crust pie
cooking spray
½ tablespoon grapeseed oil
¼ cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon milk, or more as needed

Steps:

  • Combine apples, butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a non-stick skillet. Cook over medium heat until apples have softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Dissolve cornstarch in cold water. Stir into apple mixture and cook until sauce thickens, about 1 minute. Remove apple pie filling from heat and set aside to cool while you prepare the crust.
  • Unroll pie crust on a lightly floured surface and roll out slightly to smooth the surface of the dough. Cut the dough into rectangles small enough so that 2 can fit in your air fryer at one time. Repeat with remaining crust until you have 8 equal rectangles, re-rolling some of the scraps of dough if needed.
  • Wet the outer edges of 4 rectangles with water and place some apple filling in the center about 1/2-inch from the edges. Roll out the remaining 4 rectangles so that they are slightly larger than the filled ones. Place these rectangles on top of the filling; crimp the edges with a fork to seal. Cut 4 small slits in the tops of the pies.
  • Spray the basket of an air fryer with cooking spray. Brush the tops of 2 pies with grapeseed oil and transfer pies to the air fryer basket using a spatula.
  • Insert basket and set the temperature to 385 degrees F (195 degrees C). Bake until golden brown, about 8 minutes. Remove pies from the basket and repeat with the remaining 2 pies.
  • Mix together powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl. Brush glaze on warm pies and allow to dry. Serve pies warm or at room temperature.

4 McIntosh apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 (8-biscuit) package refrigerated jumbo flaky biscuits
oil, for spraying
powdered sugar, for dusting

Steps:

  • To make filling, in a large sauté pan, melt butter. Add apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Sauté over medium heat until apples are soft, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and cool.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out biscuits into 7- to 8-inch-diameter circles. Place 2 or 3 tablespoons of the apple filling on each circle and brush edges with water. Fold half of each circle over filling to make a half-moon shape. Seal by pressing edges with tines of a fork.
  • Working in batches of 2, spray pies on both sides with oil and place in air fryer basket lined with parchment paper. Set air fryer temperature to 350 degrees, and air fry for 5 minutes. Flip pies, spray with oil, and air fry for 5 minutes more. Repeat with remaining pies. Dust pies with powdered sugar.

1 can apple pie filling
1/8 cup granulated white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Unroll each room temperature pie crust and using a 4.5 inch biscuit/cookie cutter cut out 4 holes in each pie crust.
  • Moisten the outside edge of each circle with water.
  • Place 1 ½ tablespoons of pie filling in the center of each circle.
  • Fold the circles in half and press the two seams together using your fingers.
  • Use a fork to seal the edges.
  • Use a sharp knife to score the top of the crust three times.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar. Set aside.
  • Lightly spray each hand pie with grapeseed oil. Sprinkle each pie with the cinnamon/sugar mixture.
  • Pre-heat air fryer at 350°F.
