GRANDMA'S OLD-FASHIONED APPLE CRISP
Simple, old-fashioned apple crisp. If you want something simple and homemade on hand, you can double the filling recipe (I use a 5-pound bag of Granny Smith apples) and freeze half of it.

- Peel and core apples before slicing - don't worry about making them too thin. Place apples in greased baking dish.
- In a medium sized bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients (except the butter). Add diced butter to the bowl and with a pastry blender, work together the dry ingredients to form a good, packable crumb - this could take 5 - 10 minutes.
- Spoon the mixture over the apples being sure to pack it in so that it's hugging the apples. Bake for 30-45 minutes, or until apples are tender and the crisp topping is golden brown. I suggest check the apples at 30 minutes, and then checking each additional 5 minutes. Be careful not to overtake or you'll have applesauce with a delicious crisp topping.
