BISCUITS AND GRAVY ROLLS
While this biscuit and gravy recipe might at first seem pretty standard, there's a delicious secret hiding between the flaky layers of these warm, fluffy biscuits. We put a delightful twist on what you know as classic biscuits and gravy by sprinkling cooked ground sausage into the Bisquick™ biscuit dough before baking. Not only do you get to enjoy the taste of flavorful sausage in every bite, but the traditional sawmill gravy that gets drizzled over the biscuits is one of the best thick and creamy homemade gravy recipes you'll ever meet. Top it off by grinding a bit of black pepper over your meal before serving for the final finishing touch. Fair warning-our homemade biscuits and gravy tend to go fast, so don't be surprised if you have to make double.

Steps:
- In 8-inch skillet, crumble and cook pork sausage over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until no longer pink. Drain, reserving drippings.
- Heat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease or spray 13x9-inch pan.
- In large bowl, stir Bisquick mix, milk and sugar until dough forms. Place dough on surface lightly sprinkled with Bisquick mix; knead until smooth, about 10 turns. Roll out dough to 15x9-inch rectangle. Spread crumbled sausage on rectangle. Roll up dough tightly from one long side; pinch seam to seal. Cut roll into 12 equal slices. Place cut side down in pan.
- Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Meanwhile, return sausage drippings to skillet over medium heat (add butter as needed to make 4 tablespoons total). Add flour; beat with whisk. Slowly add milk, beating constantly. Cook about 5 minutes or until thickened.
- Transfer rolls to serving plates. Spoon gravy over tops; sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.

- Cook the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes until evenly browned, breaking up into small pieces as it cooks. Remove from the skillet with a slotted spoon and transfer to a plate, leaving any rendered fat behind.
- Add the butter to the skillet. Once the butter melts, add the flour and whisk until light golden brown, about 2 minutes. Slowly whisk in the milk until combined and whisk until the gravy thickens, about 10 minutes.
- Add the thyme, red pepper flakes, sage, salt, pepper, and sausage to the pan and stir until combined. Transfer the mixture to a glass measuring cup and let cool to room temperature.
- Carefully pour the cooled gravy into a silicone ice mold and freeze overnight.
- Make the biscuits: Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- To the bowl of a food processor, add the flour, baking powder, butter, salt, cheddar cheese, and chives. Pulse several times until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- With the processor running, slowly pour in the heavy cream and pulse until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until no longer sticky. Roll the dough out to about ⅛ inch (½ cm) thick and cut out 8 4-inch (10 cm) circles with a floured biscuit cutter.
- Remove the frozen gravy from the mold and place 1 cube at the center of each biscuit. Bring the edges of the dough over the gravy and roll to seal. Save the leftover gravy cubes for another use.
- Place the stuffed biscuits on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with more cheese.
- Bake the biscuits for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Line the bottom of the prepared baking dish with biscuits.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir sausage in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease. Scatter sausage over biscuit layer and top with 1 cup Cheddar cheese.
- Whisk eggs, milk, salt, and pepper together in a bowl and pour over cheese layer.
- Mix water and gravy mix together in a saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until gravy is thickened, 1 to 2 minutes, adding more water for a thinner gravy. Pour gravy over egg layer. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese over casserole.
- Bake in the preheated oven until egg is fluffy and cheese is bubbling, about 30 minutes.
