CHOCOLATE CHERRY MICE

Chocolate Cherry Mice image

Chocolate Cherry Mice are the cutest little Christmastime treats! Sweet chocolate covered cherries with an adorable mouse face that kids love to make and eat.

Provided by Erica Walker

Categories     candy

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup chocolate candy melts (milk or semi-sweet (You can also use chocolate chips with 1/2 teaspoon of shortening or coconut oil))
20 Maraschino cherries (WITH stems (these are a little hard to find, but they are a must!))
20 Hershey's chocolate kisses
40 Unsalted peanut halves
20 Red-hots
White decorating frosting (I usually just buy a small squeeze tube from the grocery store cake aisle. )

Steps:

  • In the microwave or over the stove, melt the chocolate. Stir until smooth.
  • Holding a cherry by its stem, dip it into the chocolate. Place on a baking sheet covered with wax paper.
  • Press a chocolate kiss to the front of the cherry. The wet chocolate will hold them together. Wedge peanut halves between the cherry and chocolate kiss to make the ears.
  • Add a couple dots of white frosting for eyes, then put a little melted chocolate on a red-hot and place on the end of the kiss to make the nose.

MICE

Mice image

Kids love them. I did growing up -- my mom use to make these around Christmas time, but great for anytime! You can make as many as you want. They are great to look at.

Categories     Desserts     Chocolate Dessert Recipes     Milk Chocolate

Time 1h15m

Yield 20

Number Of Ingredients 5

8 ounces chocolate confectioners' coating
20 red maraschino cherries with stems
3 tablespoons blanched slivered almonds
20 milk chocolate candy kisses, unwrapped
40 small red decorating candies (dragees)

Steps:

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Chop the confectioners' coating into chunks, and place into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat the coating in the microwave oven on High for 30 seconds; then heat again 4 or 5 more times for 10 to 15 seconds each time until the coating is warm (not hot) and melted. Stir well until the chocolate coating is smooth and free of lumps. The coating should be about 95 degrees F (35 degrees C).
  • Dry the cherries well with paper towels. Holding each cherry by the stem, dip it into the chocolate coating to just reach the bottom of the stem. Carefully lay the cherry on its side, so the stem sticks out the side. This will be the tail. Before the coating sets up, stick the flat side of an unwrapped chocolate kiss opposite the tail, to make a pointy-nosed face. Pick out two nicely shaped slivers of almond, and insert them between the chocolate kiss and the dipped cherry to make little ears. Use a toothpick to make two small dots of melted coating on the face for eyes; stick two little red candies to the coating dots. Repeat with the rest of the cherries. Allow the coating to set until firm and cool, about 30 minutes.

Categories     Chocolate

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 can(s) maraschino cherries with the stems attached (yields about 35 mice)
1 pkg milk chocolate chips
1 pkg sliced almonds
1 pkg hershey's kisses

Steps:

  • 1. Unwrap Kisses and set aside. Lay out a large area of wax paper.
  • 2. Melt chocolate chips.
  • 3. Take cherries by the stem and dip into melted chocolate.
  • 4. Lay the cherry down and attach the Kiss to it to form a head. (The chocolate will serve as a glue - If it's not sticky enough, dip the blunt end of the Kiss into the chocolate to make it adhere better.) While the chocolate is still warm, attach almond slices between the head and body. These are the ears!
  • 5. Add eyes and a mouth with icing if you wish. Enjoy!

sliced almonds
11 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 teaspoons Crisco shortening

  • Set the cherry on the flat side of chocolate kiss, and then position them on cream side of the Oreo with the stem hanging over the edge.

  • Keep the chocolate warm by setting it in a bowl of warm water.

CHOCOLATE CHRISTMAS MICE COOKIES

Chocolate Christmas Mice Cookies image

These use Chocolate-Covered Cherry Mice(recipe previously posted). These are easy to make and a great project to do with children. No baking required, just use Hershey's chocolate kisses, double stuffed Oreos, maraschino cherries and chocolate chips to "build" your Christmas mice!

Provided by Nana Lee

Categories     Candy

Time 40m

Yield 2 doz

Number Of Ingredients 10

24 Oreo Double Stuff cookies
6 ounces semisweet chocolate
1/2 teaspoon butter
1 ounce paraffin wax, chopped (see Notes)
1/2 cup chocolate chips (see Notes)
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1 (3 ounce) package red decorating gel (clear)
1 (3 ounce) package green decorating gel (clear)
24 cherries
1 (8 ounce) package , hershey's kisses

Steps:

  • Carefully twist Oreo cookies apart. Set aside the ones with the cream filling on them; save plain halves for another use. (You could make crumbs for pie crust).
  • In microwave, melt chocolate chip, paraffin and butter; stir until smooth.
  • Holding cherry by stem, dip in melted chocolate, then press onto the bottom of a chocolate kiss.
  • Place cherry and kiss onto the cream filling of the cookie. Let stem extend over the edge.
  • Make ears for your mouse by placing sliced almonds between the cherry and the kiss (before the chocolate sets).
  • Place in refrigerator until chocolate sets.
  • With green decorative gel, pipe holly leaves on white cream of cookie by the mouse.
  • Pipe holly berries between the leaves with the red gel.
  • Pipe eyes on each chocolate kiss.
  • Store in airtight container at room temperature.
  • TIPS:.
  • I used Almond Bark instead of the chocolate chips and eliminated the need for shortening.
  • Maraschino cherries need to have stems and be well-drained.
  • Keep chocolate hot by putting in a bowl over a steaming pan of water.
  • I used a teapot, took the lid off and placed my bowl over it after melting chocolate in microwave.
  • You can use a clean eyebrow tweezer or something else to grasp the cherries by the stems to dunk in chocolate.
  • Make extras because everyone at your party will want one to take home to show around and to use as a pattern to make their own!
