CHOCOLATE-COVERED STRAWBERRY SNACK MIX

Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Snack Mix image

I love chocolate-covered strawberries, but that's a treat you want to make only on special occasions. With a little experimenting, I've captured the same incredible flavor in a snack I can take anywhere. Everyone is always amazed when I pull this out at a picnic or tailgate, or on a car trip. -TerryAnn Moore, Vineland, New Jersey

CHOCOLATE COVERED CEREAL

Categories     dessert

Time 50m

Yield 10 to 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 cups whole grain oat cereal, such as Cheerios
1 pound milk chocolate, tempered
4 cups corn flake cereal
1 pound dark chocolate, tempered

Steps:

  • For the oat cereal: Line 2 rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Place the cereal in a large bowl. Pour about half of the tempered chocolate over the cereal and, using a rubber spatula, toss the cereal around to coat evenly. The chocolate will begin to set. When the first coating has set, pour in the remaining chocolate and again toss to coat evenly.
  • Working quickly while the chocolate is still pliable, scoop up small mounds of the cereal and place them on the prepared baking sheets. Set aside for about 30 minutes (or place the baking sheets in the refrigerator for no more than 10 minutes to speed the setting).
  • Layer the cereal clusters, separated by sheets of waxed paper, in an airtight container and store at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
  • For the corn flake cereal: Crunch up the cereal by hand, so as to break them up, but not pulverize them into crumbs. Add the crumbled cereal to the bowl of chocolate and toss to coat evenly.
  • Drop the cereal by rounded spoonfuls onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Place the sheet into the refrigerator to help the cornflake clusters set.
  • Package as you wish!

CHOCOLATE-COVERED STRAWBERRY CEREAL TREATS

Chocolate-covered strawberry Cereal Treats image

I currently live in Mexico and after discovering how expensive certain ingredients are began letting out my experimental side. These came out amazing!!! I had made rice krispy treats before with corn flakes and chocolate chips but this time I was thrown off by the fact that all mexican stores sell marshmallows in bags with both white and pink marshmallows--the pink ones being strawberry flavored. I was leery at first and actually made two separate batches, but everyone loved the strawberry ones best!!!

Provided by Chelsea Mitcham @shellsea87

Categories     Chocolate

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 box(es) corn flakes
1 package(s) marshmallows (normal and strawberry flavored)
1/3 cup(s) butter or margarine
12 ounce(s) chocolate chips, mini

Steps:

  • Melt the butter and add the marshmallows to melt, stirring constantly and watching to not burn(my marshmallows were slightly big so I tore them into smaller pieces so they would melt more quickly) **Note** You may decide you need more butter. Depends on what heat you melt them at and how well you watch them. I personally don't care too much for butter so just keep a good watch on it ***Other note*** If you cannot find strawberry flavored marshmallows try a mexican store or just get regular marshmallows and add a teaspoon of strawberry extract or flavoring
  • Once melted and smooth, remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips and then the corn flakes. Work quickly!!!!!
