OLD-FASHION OATMEAL PIE

Old-Fashion Oatmeal Pie image

This great pie recipe goes back over 100 years. The recipe came from my grandmother's grandmother who was living in Charleston, South Carolina during the 1860's. Family history has it, that during the Civil War, since pecans were in short supply in the South, oatmeal was substituted for the traditional pecan pie and the results were astonishing. Now served at every family gathering since that time.

OATMEAL PIE • DANCE AROUND THE KITCHEN
2021-08-17 The History of Oatmeal Pie. It's said that Oatmeal Pie was created back during the Civil War. Though pecan pie was popular, the price of pecans was too high for many families to afford so oatmeal was used in instead. I've read that back in the day, sorghum or molasses would have been used (rather than the corn syrup), but is not as common nowadays.
