Turn boring chicken breasts into a sweet and tangy dish with less than 5 minutes of prep. Easy slow cooker chicken recipe is full of delicious barbecue flavor.

6 chicken breasts (boneless and skinless (fresh or frozen))
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons onion flakes (minced)
½ teaspoon garlic salt
1 ½ cup barbecue sauce (divided)
12 ounces Coca-Cola (divided)

Steps:

  • Spread the chicken breasts in the bottom of a 6-quart crockpot.
  • Sprinkle the pepper, minced onion flakes, and garlic salt over the chicken. Pour ½ cup of the barbecue sauce over the chicken.
  • Pour 1 cup Coca-Cola into the slow cooker.
  • Cover and set on a high setting for 4 hours or low for 6 to 7 hours.
  • After the chicken has cooked for about 3 hours on high (or 5 hours on low), drain all liquid from the slow cooker, leaving the chicken in the pot. Add the remaining ½ cup of Coca-Cola and the remaining 1 cup of barbecue sauce to the slow cooker. Continue cooking for the remaining hour.
  • Serve whole with sauce spooned over the top or shred chicken and mix with excess sauce.

1 large onion
3 to 4 pounds of chicken parts
1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
Ground black pepper (to taste)
1 cup ketchup
1 cup cola (or Dr. Pepper)

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Cut the ends off the onion, peel it, and then cut it in half lengthwise. Slice the halves thinly.
  • Place half of the onion slices in the bottom of the 5- to 6-quart slow cooker crockery insert.
  • Place the chicken pieces on the onion layer. Sprinkle lightly with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  • Top the chicken with the remaining onion slices.
  • In a small bowl, combine the ketchup and cola or Dr Pepper. Mix to blend thoroughly.
  • Pour the cola and ketchup mixture over the chicken pieces in the slow cooker.
  • Cover the pot and cook on low for 4 1/2 to 7 hours, or until the chicken is fully cooked but not yet falling apart. If you want it shreddable, go for the longer time of 7 hours. The minimum safe temperature for chicken is 165 F (73.9 C). If in doubt, check for doneness with an instant-read food thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the chicken (not touching bone).
  • Serve whole pieces and the onion slices on a platter with the sauce or shred the chicken and serve with the sauce on buns. Enjoy.

1 lemon, quartered
1 onion, quartered
1 20 ounce bottle of BBQ sauce (any brand or flavor you prefer)
1 can of Coca Cola

Steps:

  • Peel onion and cut into quarters. Cut lemon into quarters. Place chicken breasts in crock pot. Place onion and lemon quarters on top. Pour in entire bottle of BBQ Sauce and entire can of Coke. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
