2 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup sugar
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
Kosher salt
12 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped (see Cook's Note)
Mini marshmallows, for topping
Whipped cream, for topping
Crushed candy canes, for topping
Salted caramel sauce, for topping

Steps:

  • Add the milk, cream, cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla and 1/4 teaspoon salt to a 6-quart slow cooker. Whisk until combined and the cocoa is dissolved. Stir in the chopped chocolate.
  • Cover and cook on low, whisking every 30 minutes, until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is hot, about 2 hours 30 minutes.
  • Ladle into mugs and top as desired with either some marshmallows or whipped cream sprinkled with crushed candy canes, or drizzled with caramel sauce.

6 cups milk (any percentage, plus more for serving*)
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups (12oz) chopped semisweet chocolate, high-quality chips are fine
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
Whipped cream
Marshmallows
Candy canes

Steps:

  • Combine all hot chocolate ingredients in the slow cooker and stir together.
  • Cook on low for 3 to 4 hours or high for about 2 hours. Stir once 15 minutes after starting the hot chocolate and then again every 45 minutes or so.
  • Hot chocolate is done when the chocolate is completely melted and mixture is steaming hot.
  • Serve and enjoy!

1/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups milk, divided
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup heavy cream
1 (1 ounce) bittersweet chocolate square
1 (1 ounce) white chocolate baking square
3/4 cup whipped cream
6 teaspoons mini chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Combine sugar, cocoa, salt and 1/2 cup milk in medium bowl.
  • Beat until smooth.
  • Pour into crock pot.
  • Add remaining milk and vanilla extract.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 2 hours.

  • Spray crock pot with non-stick cooking spray or lightly grease.
  • Mix cake mix, sour cream, pudding mix, chocolate chips, oil, eggs and water in bowl by hand.

  • Briskly whisk to dissolve the cocoa powder as much as possible. Keep whisking until none of it floats to the top; this may take 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Cook on low for 2 to 3 hours or on high for 45 minutes to 1 hour (depending upon your slow cooker; it may finish sooner. Once it's hot and the chocolate is melted smoothly, you can serve it as soon as you like; I prefer to do this on low to make sure the chocolate doesn't burn). Whisk every 45 minutes or so to make sure the chocolate isn’t burning on the bottom of the crock pot. At this point, you can keep it on "low" or switch to "keep warm" if you have that setting. Do not keep it on high, as if the chocolate becomes too hot, it can burn or separate.
