  1. tart apples
  2. brown sugar
  3. unbleached cane sugar
  4. cinnamon
  5. lemon juice
  6. unbleached all-purpose flour
  7. salt
  8. baking powder
  9. baking soda
  10. butter
  11. oatmeal


  1. preheat oven to 350f
  2. combine the flour , 1 / 2 cup brown sugar , salt , baking powder , baking soda , butter , and oatmeal
  3. refrigerate until cool , about 15 minutes
  4. toss the cubed apples in the lemon juice , then in a combination of 1 / 4 cup brown sugar , 1 / 4 cup white sugar , and 1 tsp cinnamon
  5. place the apples in a square or round 9" baking dish
  6. crumble the topping mixture over the apples and bake for 45-60 minutes or until the apple juices are bubbling over the topping
