1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup hot water
1/8 teaspoon salt
4 cups non-dairy milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dairy-free whipped topping, optional

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the cocoa powder, sugar, water, and salt over medium heat.
  • Cook, constantly stirring until smooth and bring to a simmer.
  • Reduce heat, and stir in the milk, do not boil.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour into mugs and serve immediately.

1 cup dairy-free milk powder (soy, rice, or coconut)
¼ cup cocoa powder
½ cup vanilla sugar (see Vanilla Sugar Recipe below)
Pinch sea salt

Steps:

  • Put the dairy-free milk powder, cocoa powder, vanilla sugar, and salt in a bowl and whisk to combine.
  • Store the hot cocoa mix in an airtight container.
  • Put ¼ cup of the hot cocoa mix into a mug and whisk in 1 cup boiling water until smooth.

2 -3 teaspoons cocoa powder
2 tablespoons sugar
1 cup vanilla-flavored soymilk

Steps:

  • Pour the soy milk into a microwaveable mug and microwave on high for 1 minute.
  • Add the cocoa powder and sugar and stir well to combine.
  • Note: If using plain soy or rice milk, you can add 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  • I've also added almond extract with wonderful results.
  • The amounts can be tweaked depending on how chocolatey you like your cocoa!

2 cups almond milk (or favorite non dairy milk)
2 tablespoons raw cocao powder (can sub cocoa powder)
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
large pinch sea salt

Steps:

  • Add all the ingredients into a large heavy bottom pot and heat over medium high heat.
  • Continuously whisk the ingredients together for about 2-3 minutes until the cocao powder is no longer clumpy and has blended into the milk. Continue to heat and whisk the milk until piping hot.
  • Pour into a heat proof mug and serve hot
  • Top with coconut whipped cream, a sprinkle of organic cinnamon, homemade marshmallows, or crushed candy canes.
