A fun twist on an iconic Japanese dish! This deconstructed salmon sushi recipe makes a great meal or appetizer. Whether you're cooking an Asian-inspired dinner feast and need a starter, or looking to treat yourself to a unique lunch- this recipe is sure to wow.

1 cup Short grain white rice (sushi rice) / Riz à sushi
1 cup Water / eau
3 tbsp Rice vinegar / vinaigre de riz
2 tbsp Granulated sugar / sucre granulé
1.5 tsp Salt / sel
1 pinch Black pepper / poivre
0.25 cup Canola oil / huile de canola
Shiso leaves /
113 g Smoked salmon / saumon fumé
0.33 cup Thinly sliced red onion
2 tbsp Sesame seeds / graines de sésame
VH Wasabi Flavoured Soya Sauce / Sauce soya aromatisée Wasabi VH

Steps:

  • Combine rice and water in a medium saucepan set over high. Bring to a boil. Boil for 1 minute, then reduce heat to low. Cook, covered, for 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Let stand, covered, for 15 minutes. ##Meanwhile, combine vinegar, sugar, salt and black pepper in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 45 seconds on 100% power. Set aside to cool. ##Stir half of cooled vinegar mixture into cooked rice until well coated. Then stir in remaining vinegar. ##Heat a large frying pan over medium. Add oil. With wet hands, form rice into patties about 2-in wide and 1/2-in thick. Add to pan, cooking in batches if necessary. Cook until lightly golden, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. ##Arrange shiso leaves on a platter. Transfer rice patties onto leaves. Top with smoked salmon and onion. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve with soya sauce.

1 cup uncooked medium grain white rice
2 cups water
1 cup imitation crabmeat, shredded
1 cup peeled, thinly sliced cucumbers
2 medium avocados, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce, or more to taste
1 tablespoon black sesame seeds, or to taste

Steps:

  • Rinse rice 3 times. Place in a saucepan and add water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until rice is tender and water has been absorbed, 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from the heat and cool to room temperature, 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Divide ingredients evenly and layer onto 4 plates as follows: rice, crab, cucumber slices, and avocado slices. Drizzle teriyaki over each plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
