DRUNKEN CHERRIES

Drunken Cherries image

This easy 3-ingredient recipe makes the booziest cherries ever. Soak the fruit for at least two weeks (or longer -- like WAY longer) for totally buzzed fruit and cherry infused liquor, that's perfect for your craft cocktails.

Provided by Lisa Lotts

Categories     Snack

Time P6m1D

Number Of Ingredients 5

cherries
sugar
vodka
glass jars with tight fitting lids
small funnel

Steps:

  • Rinse the cherries and pick out any bruised, soft or damaged fruit.
  • Use a pair of kitchen sheers to trim the stems to about 1/2" long.
  • Pack the cherries into a jar, filling it tightly and to the top.
  • Use a funnel to fill the jar about 1/3 of the way with sugar.
  • Fill the jar to the top with vodka and seal the lid on tightly.
  • Shake and roll the jar in your hands until the sugar has dissolved.
  • Place the jar in a cool dark spot for at least two weeks or longer (My friend Nola goes a full six months). Shake or roll the jar every so often a few times if you're going with a shorter soak and at least once a month if you're going for longer.

HOMEMADE BRANDIED CHERRIES

Homemade Brandied Cherries image

A quick and easy Homemade Brandied Cherries recipe. This is a wonderful way of preserving cherries while flavouring an after-dinner digestif.

Provided by Marisa

Categories     Cocktail

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 750ml bottle of Brandy
1 1/2 - 2 pounds Bing Cherries (approximately)

Steps:

  • Rinse cherries under cold running water and lay out in a single layer on a clean dish cloth.
  • Pat the cherries dry.
  • Using a scissor, clip the stem of the cherry while leaving approximately a quarter of the stem intact. (leaving the stem intact ensures a firm and crunchy cherry)
  • Fill the jars with the cherries while leaving some head space in the jars.
  • Pour the brandy over the cherries, making sure the cherries are completely submerged.
  • Put the lids on the jars and refrigerate for 4 weeks before consuming. (If you can resist that long)
  • This allows for the cherries to be infused with brandy flavour while the brandy intensifies with the crimson red hue of the cherries.
  • Serve as an after dinner digestif

This makes a wonderful gift, especially around the holidays with its vibrant color. This should be stored for 8 hours before eating (in order for the flavors to develop) and last up to 1 week. It is lovely served over vanilla ice cream or used as a topping for cheesecake (or any other dessert).

MOONSHINE CHERRIES

Moonshine Cherries image

Dress up a dessert or cocktail with homemade moonshine cherries. Boozy and sweet, it doesn't take much to put together this fun adult snack.

Provided by Cara Geertsema

Categories     Drinks

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 4

4 cups fresh cherries, pitted
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3 1/2 cups liqueur (moonshine, rum, vodka, brandy)
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Steps:

  • In a small pot, place sugar and your booze of choice (original moonshine is recommended) and bring to a simmer over medium heat while stirring constantly.
  • Once the mixture has come to a simmer, turn off the heat and let it sit for about 15- 20 minutes and then stir in a few tablespoons of lemon juice. Fill your sanitized glassware with the cherries and pour the boozy mixture over the top, leaving about 1-inch headspace. Secure the lid and store in the refrigerator for up to a year. If you'd rather the moonshine cherries be shelf-stable, process them in a hot water bath for 15 minutes.
