FAST FOOD BISCUITS

Fast Food Biscuits image

Got this from the newspaper years ago. So easy to whip up and have for breakfast or dust them with sugar before baking and have fresh strawberries and whipped cream on them.

Provided by nascarmom

Categories     Breads

Time 12m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
2 tablespoons sugar (or less)
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup oil
2/3 cup buttermilk (or milk with 1 tsp. vinegar and 1/2 to 1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in it and let set for a few minu)
egg wash
1 egg
1 tablespoon water

Steps:

  • Combine dry ingredients.
  • Measure oil and milk in measuring cup and do not mix.
  • Pour all at once over flour mixture. Just mix in bowl. Does not need to be kneaded or shaped. Just mix until all ingredients are just moistened. Can add a little more flour if it seems too gooey but you basically will take it in your hands to shape and place on pan.
  • Let proof 10 min on lightly greased pan. If you want a more golden look, place egg wash on top before baking. If you want a more dessert type biscuit for strawberry shortcake then dust with sugar and melted butter (or egg wash) before baking.
  • 475 degrees 10-12 minutes or until lightly brown. (You may want to adjust heat and time for your own oven since all cook differently).

QUICK BISCUITS

Quick Biscuits image

Provided by Food Network

Categories     side-dish

Time 1h50m

Yield 18 to 20 biscuits

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 tablespoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
10 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces, chilled
1 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons milk, for brushing

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • To the bowl of a food processor, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Pulse until combined. Add the butter pieces and process until mixture resembles fine meal. With the machine running, add buttermilk and process just until dough comes together.
  • Turn dough out onto a board and knead briefly; do not overwork dough, or biscuits will be tough. With a rolling pin, roll dough out to a 1-inch thickness. Flour a 1-inch round cutter, and then cut out biscuits and transfer to a sheet pan. Refrigerate for 1 hour, or up to 24 hours. Brush tops of biscuits with milk. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.

FLUFFY BISCUITS

If you're looking for a flaky basic biscuit, this recipe is the best. These golden brown rolls bake up tall, light and tender. They're good on their own, but taste even better served warm and spread with butter or jam. -Nancy Horsburgh, Everett, Ontario

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°. In a bowl, whisk together first 4 ingredients. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Whisk together egg and milk. Add to dry ingredients; stir just until moistened. Dough will be wet. , On a well-floured surface, knead dough gently 8-10 times. Roll to 1/2-in. thickness; cut with a floured 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. , Bake until golden brown, 10-12 minutes. Serve warm.

FAST FOOD-STYLE BISCUITS (FOR 2)

Fast Food-Style Biscuits (For 2) image

I bought the book "Small-Batch Baking" and this was a recipe I tried this morning and loved!! It made 2 normal size biscuits and one about 1/2 the size. The author, Debby Maugans Nakos, states that this is similar to "Hardee's" biscuits. Mine turned out golden on the outside and tender in the inside and so quick and easy.

Provided by diner524

Categories     Breakfast

Time 20m

Yield 2 biscuits, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup self-rising flour, plus extra for the work surface
2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into 12 pieces
3 1/2-4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream (cold)

Steps:

  • Place a rack in the center of the oven and preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Brush 1 tablespoon of the melted butter over a 6-inch square area on the baking sheet. Set the baking sheet aside.
  • Place a large fine-mesh sieve over a medium size bowl. Place the flour in the sieve and sift it into the bowl. Cut in the butter pieces with a fork by dragging the tines of the fork through the flour and butter, pressing the tines to the bottom of the bowl, until the remaining lumps are no larger than peas. Sprinkle 3 1/2 tablespoons of the cream over the mixture, and toss lightly with the fork just until the dough begins to hold together. If necessary, sprinkle the remaining 1/2 tablespoon cream over the dough to make it hold together as a soft dough. ( I needed the full 4 tablespoons).
  • Flour your hands, and lightly knead the dough in the bowl 5 or 6 times. Lightly flour a cutting board, place the dough on it, and pat the dough out to form a 5 X 2 1/2 inch rectangle, about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out 2 biscuits with a 2 1/2 inch round cutter. If you wish, form the scraps into a third biscuit.
  • Place the biscuits on the buttered square on the baking sheet. Bake until they are golden, about 10 minutes. (I baked mine for 13 minutes, until they were golden).
  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven and serve, or wrap in a cloth napkin to stay warm. For buttery tops, brush the biscuits lightly with the remaining 1 tablespoon melted butter when you remove them from the oven. Serve hot or warm.

FLAKIEST BISCUITS BY ANGIE THOMAS RECIPE BY TASTY

Flakiest Biscuits By Angie Thomas Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: biscuit flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, unsalted butter, buttermilk, butter

Provided by Rie McClenny

Categories     Sides

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 cups biscuit flour, or all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
4 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, 2 sticks, cubed, very cold
1 cup buttermilk, plus 2 tablespoons
butter, melted, for brushing

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Using your hands or a pastry cutter, incorporate the butter into the dry ingredients, leaving large chunks.
  • Fold in the buttermilk until a thick dough forms.
  • Lightly flour a clean surface and dump the dough onto it. Bring the dough together until it comes together in one large piece.
  • Roll out with a rolling pin to about 1 ½-2 inches (4-5 cm) thick. Using a biscuit cutter or small glass, cut out 2-3-inch (5-7 cm) rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet. It's okay if the biscuits are touching.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Brush the biscuits with melted butter.
  • Serve as desired.
  • Enjoy!
