Funeral Sliders (Hot Ham and Cheese Sliders) image

Funeral Sandwiches are delicious ham and cheese sliders you can make as an easy appetizer recipe or as a family friendly meal. Full of warm salty ham, nutty Swiss cheese and topped with a tangy Dijon butter sauce, these mini slider sandwiches are nothing to be sad about!

1 lb deli ham slices
6 slices of Swiss cheese
1 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/4 cup butter melted
½ teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 package sweet dinner rolls (Hawaiian rolls)

Steps:

  • Cut entire package of rolls in half horizontally. Place bottom half in a 9x9 ovenproof baking dish. Layer ham and Swiss cheese over bottom half. Replace the top of the rolls.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together dijon mustard, melted butter, onion powder and Worcestershire sauce.Pour sauce over the rolls, just covering the tops. Cover with foil and let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted. Uncover and cook for additional 2 minutes until tops are slightly browned and crisp. Serve warm or at room temperature.

2 cups all-purpose flour, or more if needed
1 envelope Fleischmann's® RapidRise Yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup milk
¼ cup water
2 tablespoons butter OR margarine

Steps:

  • Combine 3/4 cup flour, undissolved yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Heat milk, water and butter until very warm (120 degrees to 130 degrees F). Add to flour mixture. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed of electric mixer, scraping bowl occasionally. Add 1/4 cup flour; beat 2 minutes at high speed. Stir in enough remaining flour to make soft dough. Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes. Cover; let rest 10 minutes.
  • Divide dough into 12 equal pieces; shape into balls. Place in greased 8-inch round pan. Cover; let rise in warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  • Bake in preheated 375 degrees F oven for 20 minutes or until done. Remove from pan; brush with additional melted butter, if desired. Serve warm.

I'm pleased to share the recipe for these light and tender rolls, which I've made for 25 years. I once served them to a woman who'd been in the restaurant business for half a century. She said they were the best rolls she'd ever tasted.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 package (1/4 ounces) active dry yeast
1/2 cup plus 3/4 teaspoon sugar, divided
1-1/3 cups plus 3 tablespoons warm water (110° to 115°), divided
1/3 cup canola oil
1 large egg, room temperature
1 teaspoon salt
4-3/4 to 5-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
Melted butter, optional

Steps:

  • In a bowl, dissolve yeast and 3/4 teaspoon sugar in 3 tablespoons water. Add remaining sugar and water, oil, egg, salt and 2 cups flour; mix well. Add enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. , Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour., Punch dough down. Shape into 20 balls. Roll each into a 8-in. rope; tie into a loose knot. Place on a greased baking sheet; cover and refrigerate overnight. Allow rolls to sit at room temperature for 45 minutes before baking. , Bake at 375° until lightly browned, about 12-15 minutes. Brush with butter if desired. Remove to wire racks to cool.

cooking spray
1 pound thinly sliced ham
½ pound sliced Swiss cheese
2 (12 count) packages Hawaiian bread rolls (such as King's®)
1 cup butter, melted
4 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
2 tablespoons poppy seeds

Steps:

  • Spray a cookie sheet with cooking spray. Place ham and Swiss cheese slices on the bottom of the rolls and cover with roll tops.
  • Mix butter, brown sugar, Worcestershire, mustard, and poppy seeds together in a small bowl and spoon over sandwich tops. Let sit, 4 hours to overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden and cheese is melted, about 25 minutes.

1 package (12 ct) of King’s Hawaiian Rolls (or other brand of choice)
1 lb. Ham (sliced thin)
Swiss or Provolone Cheese, thinly sliced
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
3 TBSP Worcestershire sauce
2 TBSP mustard
2 TBSP brown sugar
¼ tsp onion powder
optional, poppy seeds

Steps:

  • Cut each roll in half, lengthwise and place bottom halves on the bottom of a baking pan. Layer bottom half with ham slices and cheese and place the top half back on. In a bowl, Mix together the butter, Worcestershire, mustard, brown sugar and onion powder. Pour sauce over sandwiches, drenching each one. Cover tightly and marinade anywhere from 4-24 hours. Overnight works best! Preheat oven to 350°. Optional - sprinkle poppy seeds over the top Bake for 15 minutes uncovered,or until cheese is melted and bun tops are a bit golden.

1 pkg. Hawaiian sweet rolls, split
12 slices deli ham
6 slices swiss or white american cheese
1/2 cup butter, cubed
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan. Arrange rolls in a single layer and place ham and cheese onto each bun. Place tops on buns. In a small bowl melt together the butter and brown sugar. Add Worcestshire sauce and garlic powder and mix well. Pour mixture over buns and refrigerate covered for several hours or overnight. (When I made these I did NOT let them sit and they were still delicious). Bake covered with foil for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 5 minutes more. Serve warm.
