GINGERED NUTS
Add a little spice and heat to store-bought nuts with this recipe for an easy holiday appetizer, which combines mixed nuts with candied ginger and cayenne pepper.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine nuts, candied ginger, cayenne pepper, salt, pepper, and sesame seeds. In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium-high. Bring to a boil and cook, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves, 3 minutes.
- Pour sugar syrup over nut mixture and toss well to combine. Arrange in a single layer on a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet. Bake until nuts are golden, 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let cool completely on sheet on a wire rack before breaking into bite-size pieces.

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease cookie sheets.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the butter, sugar, egg, and molasses until smooth. Combine the flour and ginger; stir into the molasses mixture until well blended. Drop large teaspoonfuls of dough about 3 inches apart onto the prepared cookie sheets.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes on the top shelf of your oven. Reduce the oven temperature to 280 degrees F (137 degrees C). Allow the cookies to cool, then return them to a warm oven for 10 more minutes to dry out and become crispy.

Steps:
- combine butter, sugar and golden syrup in pan.
- stir over heat until butter is melted.
- remove from heat.
- stir in sifted dry ingredients.
- stand until mixture feels warm to the touch.
- roll 2 level teaspoons of mixture into balls.
- place on greased oven trays, about 3cm apart.
- flatten slightly.
- bake in moderate oven about 12 minutes or until browned.
- loosen biscuits.
- cool on trays.
- (can be made a week ahead, store in an airtight container, can freeze).
