Grandma's Eggless, Butterless, Milkless Cake image

You can get a moist chocolate cake without eggs, butter, or milk thanks to this recipe, tested by Grandma and approved by all who try it.

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups white sugar
6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
⅔ cup vegetable oil
2 cups water
2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine all the dry ingredients together.
  • Combine all the wet ingredients together in another bowl.
  • Pour the liquid ingredients all at once into the dry ingredients, and beat until smooth.
  • Pour batter into a greased 9 x 13 inch pan.
  • Bake in a preheated 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) oven for 20-25 minutes. Let cool in pan. When cool sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.

  • In a large mixing bowl mix the flour, cocoa, baking soda, salt and sugar. Make three holes in the dry ingredients, one large and two small.
  • Add the vanilla to the first small hole, the vinegar to the second and the oil to the large hole. Then pour the water over everything and stir to combine.
  • Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is springy and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool the cake in the pan on a wire rack, then cut and serve.
