Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups butter
1 ½ cups white sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Roll dough out onto a flour-dusted surface and cut with cookie cutters. Arrange cut cookies onto baking sheets.
  • Bake cookies in preheated oven until beginning to brown around edges, 6 to 8 minutes.

GRANDMA MARGARET'S SUGAR COOKIES

Grandma Margaret's Sugar Cookies image

My grandmother was a purest when it came to her cookies and would turn in her grave if anything but dough ball and cookie stamp method was used. In fact, I have her old glass cookie stamp, which is an antique now.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup(s) powdered sugar
1 cup(s) granulated sugar
1 cup(s) butter
1 cup(s) vegetable oil
2 - eggs
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla
4 cup(s) plus 4 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon(s) salt
1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
1 teaspoon(s) cream of tartar

Steps:

  • Cream together the butter, powdered sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla and vegetable oil
  • Stir in salt, baking soda and cream of tartar.
  • Stir in flour. Cover and chill for 1 hour.
  • You can either roll out the dough and cut into shapes or you can roll heaping teaspoons of dough into balls. If you roll the dough into the balls, press the dough balls down with the bottom of a drinking glass or a cookie stamp. Dough will be soft so coat the glass or cookie stamp with some flour. If desired, sprinkle tops of cookies with colored decorator sugar.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes, or until cookies just barely start to turn golden brown around the edges.

GRANNY'S CUT OUT COOKIES

Granny's Cut out Cookies image

My grandmother's recipe for amazing cut outs. It's a tricky dough, but worth it in the end. They taste amazing with a buttercream icing. DO NOT USE MARGARINE! I have found that using margarine or butter in place of shortening makes the dough even trickier to handle.
