1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
1/4 cup cocoa
2 eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup walnuts (optional)
1 pinch salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F
  • Melt butter in microwave.
  • Add the cocoa and stir.
  • In medium bowl beat eggs until frothy.
  • Add sugar, flour, and salt (also nuts if you are using them).
  • Pour cocoa mixture over egg mixture and stir all together.
  • Put into a greased 8 x 8 pan. Bake for 30 minutes.
  • For a doubled recipe use a 9 x 13 pan.
  • Icing, recipe below.
  • Icing for Best Ever Brownies:
  • 1 1/3 cup icing sugar.
  • 1/3 cup cocoa.
  • 3 tbsp butter or margarine.
  • 1 tbsp & 2 tsp hot water
  • Beat all ingredients together, add more liquid if necessary.
  • Spread over brownies.

These apple bars belong smack-dab in the delicious intersection of breakfast and dessert... the two most important meals of the day! We're not sure if these are classified a brownie. To us, they have the texture of a brownie. But they're divine. Once baked, a sugary crust forms on top. There are bits of tender apples and cinnamon in every bite. Yum!

3 cup(s) all-purpose flour
3 cup(s) apples
2 cup(s) sugar
1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
1/3 cup(s) orange juice
2 - eggs
1 cup(s) vegetable oil
1 teaspoon(s) salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325. Grease and flour 9x13 pan.
  • Peel and core about 3 to 4 apples. Finely chop apples (you want the pieces small).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Whisk together.
  • Add eggs, oil, and orange juice. Mix well. I use a wooden spoon to mix.
  • Fold in diced apples (the batter will be thick).
  • Spread into the prepared baking pan.
  • Bake at 325 for approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Eat and enjoy!
