Although my dog died three years ago he loved these and I still make them for neighbors dogs. Bacon grease or meat drippings can be used in place of shortening, and any type of cooked meat may be used in place of pork.

2 ½ cups sifted whole wheat flour
½ cup dry milk powder
1 cube beef bouillon, crumbled
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup cooked ground pork
1 cup grated carrot
6 tablespoons shortening
1 egg
½ cup cold water

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly oil two cookie sheets.
  • In a medium bowl, stir together the whole wheat flour, milk powder, beef bouillon, and salt. Add the ground pork, carrot, shortening and egg; mix in to the flour mixture while gradually adding water to form a stiff ball of dough.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters, and reroll scraps until no dough is left. Place cookies 2 inches apart onto the prepared cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the bottoms of the cookies are browned. Allow cookies to set for a few minutes on the cookie sheet before removing to wire racks to cool completely.

we keep this in the refrigerator and it will keep for about a week..I just spoon gravy over dogs dry food or sometimes I dip a homemade or storebought treat in before giving it to the dog..makes about 2 cups gravy

1/4 cup whole wheat flour
14 ounces beef broth
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon beef bouillon granules

Steps:

  • place oil and flour into a medium pan.heat over very low heat -- stirring until mixture is smooth -- (it will be very thick).
  • add broth -- mix well -- add remaining ingredients stirring till smooth.
  • heat until boiling -- simmer slowly.stirring for 1 minute --
  • cool to room temperature before serving.

The basic yield is 24 treats; your yield will depend on your cookie cutter.

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
5 ounces beef-flavored baby food
6 tablespoons beef gravy
1 egg
1/2 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • In large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients.
  • Lightly coat your hands with flour and shape the mix into a big ball.
  • Using a floured wooden rolling pin, flatten the ball.
  • Using a cookie cutter of your choice, triangles or stars or whatever, cut the dough. Place the cookies on a greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Cool cookies before serving - please!

¾ cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 egg, beaten
½ cup vegetable oil
2 cubes beef bouillon cube
¾ cup boiling water
2 tablespoons brown sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Lightly grease one cookie sheet.
  • Dissolve bouillon cubes in boiling water and allow to cool.
  • Combine the flour, dry milk, egg, oil, beef broth and brown sugar. Mix well and knead dough for 1 minute.
  • On a floured surface roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out bones and place on cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 30 minutes and allow to cool.
