For those not concerned about fat intake, I add cheese. This gets thumbs up from the teenagers and boyfriend who hate anything low-fat.

1 pound ground turkey
½ onion, finely chopped
½ cup egg substitute
2 tablespoons minced fresh basil
1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
1 teaspoon light soy sauce
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 clove garlic, minced
4 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
4 leaves lettuce leaves
4 slices tomato

Steps:

  • Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  • Mix ground turkey, onion, egg substitute, basil, horseradish, soy sauce, pepper, and garlic in a large mixing bowl; form into 4 patties.
  • Cook the turkey burgers on the preheated grill until no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, about 6 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Serve on buns with lettuce and tomato.

2/3 cup sweet onion (finely chopped)
1/4 cup fresh basil (chopped)
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
Optional: 1/4 cup ketchup
1 pound ground turkey
1 pound lean ground beef
1 jar roasted red peppers
8 hamburger buns (toasted)

Steps:

  • Remove burgers from grill and serve topped with sliced roasted red peppers on toasted hamburger buns. Serve with condiments on the side.

These grilled turkey burgers are always a hit at my house! They've got lots of flavor, color, and texture!

1 pound lean ground turkey
⅓ cup chopped fresh basil
3 cloves garlic, crushed, or more to taste
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
4 slices provolone cheese
4 ciabatta rolls
¼ cup mayonnaise
⅛ cup prepared pesto
½ red onion, sliced
4 leaves romaine lettuce

Steps:

  • Combine turkey, basil, garlic, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Divide into 4 equal portions and form into hamburger patties.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate. Grill patties for about 4 minutes per side. Place provolone slices on the patties; continue to cook until cheese melts. Place ciabatta rolls on the grill and cook until browned to your liking, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Mix mayonnaise and pesto in a small bowl until thoroughly combined. Spread onto the rolls. Place the turkey patties on the rolls and top with sliced red onion and lettuce.

1 large egg, lightly beaten
2/3 cup soft whole wheat bread crumbs
1/2 cup finely chopped celery
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1-1/4 pounds lean ground turkey
6 whole wheat hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the egg, bread crumbs, celery, onion, parsley, Worcestershire sauce and seasonings. Crumble turkey over mixture and mix well. Shape into six patties. , On a greased grill, cook, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from the heat for 5-6 minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 165° and juices run clear. Serve on buns.

I adapted this recipe from another one I had. Our family loves them. The Basil sauce makes all the difference.

2 lbs ground turkey
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons fresh minced garlic
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 egg
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
fresh spinach leaves
sliced tomatoes
sliced onion
sliced avocado
1 cup best food mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard
1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
chopped fresh basil
6 large wheat hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Mix together ground turkey, chopped onion, garlic, soy sauce and egg. Mixture will be very wet. Plug in griddle and heat to 350, or you can fry them in a pan with a little cooking spray to keep from sticking.
  • divide meat mixture into 6 portions and pat out to about 1/2 thickness. They will be about 4 to 6 inches round. They shrink up a lot so I pat them a little larger than the buns diameter. fry about 5 min and flip and fry on the other side about 5 minutes or until done.
  • For sauce: mix together mayo, mustard, tabasco and about 1/2 to 1 cup chopped fresh basil. Place Burger on bun top with sauce, and add desired veggies. MMMM.

  • Gently mix together the ground turkey, feta crumbles, chopped basil, worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper with your fingertips. Make sure not to overwork the meat, but rather to think of distributing the ingredients evenly.
  • Form the meat mixture into 4 patties, keeping in mind that the burger will shrink up during cooking. For this reason, I usually make them flatter than I ultimately want, and a little bit wider than the bun. Don’t make the patties too thick or they’ll take too long to cook.
  • To cook on the stove, heat up a cast iron skillet over medium high heat for a couple minutes. Once the pan is hot, add the turkey patties and cook for about 3 minutes on each side. Time will vary depending on how hot your pan is and how thick your patties are, but you want the center of the turkey burger to read at 165 degrees F. If you find that the burgers are browning too much before the interior is cooking through, you can put a lid on the pan, or pop the burgers into a hot oven for a few minutes to finish cooking.
  • You may also grill the burgers either on an indoor or outdoor grill. About 3 minutes on each side as well, depending on how intense the heat is. Check for doneness using a thermometer, aiming for 165F.
