HAMBURGER FOIL PACKETS ("HOBO DINNER")



Hamburger Foil Packets (

These hamburger foil packets (aka "hobo dinner") are the ultimate campfire comfort food. They are a wonderful summer dinner you can cook on the grill, open fire or even in the oven!

2 pounds ground beef
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt, or more to taste
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper, or more to taste
1 1/2 pound potatoes, sliced
4 large carrots, peeled and thinly sliced
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 onion, thinly sliced
olive oil, to taste
salt & black pepper, to taste
dried parsley, to taste
garlic powder, to taste

Steps:

  • Combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce and seasoning in a bowl. Mix well and shape into 6 evenly-sized patties.
  • Divide potatoes and carrots between 6 large pieces of lightly oiled heavy-duty aluminum foil. Season with salt, pepper, dried parsley and garlic powder.
  • Place hamburger patties on vegetables, then top with sliced onions and mushrooms. Season with more salt/pepper/parsley/garlic. Generously drizzle with olive oil, then seal foil packets.
  • Grill packets over medium heat, OR cook on hot campfire coals, 15 to 20 minutes per side. Alternatively, bake packets on a baking sheet at 375°F for 45-60 minutes, or until beef patties are done.

1 pound ground beef
5 potatoes, peeled and cut into steak fries
4 large carrots, peeled and sliced lengthwise
1 onion, peeled and sliced into rings
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste
garlic salt to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a sheet pan with aluminum foil.
  • Shape the ground beef into patties and place in pan. Layer the vegetables on top of the beef patties, starting with the potatoes, then carrots and finally onions. Season with salt, pepper and garlic salt to taste.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and seal edges. Bake in the preheated oven until beef is no longer pink and vegetables are tender, about 1 hour.

These easy hobo tin-foil dinner packs will be what your kids remember eating while camping for years to come!

1 pound steak (or ground beef)
4 potatoes (peeled and cubed)
2 cups carrots (thinly sliced)
1 onion (diced)
salt and pepper, to taste
Worcestershire sauce (to taste)
½ cup barbecue sauce
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Use a large square piece of aluminum foil for each tin foil dinner. Spray foil with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Separate ground beef into 4 equal patties, or steak into 4 servings, and place in the center of each piece of foil.
  • Divide potatoes, carrots, and onion evenly between all 4 dinners and place on top of meat. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, to taste. Pour a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce on top of each dinner and fold foil up tightly around the entire meal.
  • Cook on a grill on medium-high heat or an open fire for 25-30 minutes, or until vegetables and meat are cooked through.
  • Open foil carefully and top with BBQ sauce and shredded cheese.

  • Preheat gas grill to medium-high heat. Tear heavy duty tin foil into 4 pieces approximately 15 X 12 inches. Lightly coat with cooking spray.
  • While the grill is heating, divide the ground beef into 1/4 pound portions and form into patties. Slice potatoes about 1/4 inch rounds. Peel and slice carrots. Slice onion.
  • To build dinner packets, place 3 to 4 slices of potato on the coated foil. Divide onions and carrots between 4 packs and layer over potatoes. Place hamburger patties on top of the veggies. Place 1/2 teaspoon of butter on top of the patty. Sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon of Montreal Seasoning. Fold foil over ingredients then seal middle and ends
  • To cook on the grill: Place packets on grates, seam side down and cook for 10 minutes. Turn and continue to cook for an additional 15 minutes.
