Heart Shaped Cherry Hand Pies image

These Heart-Shaped Cherry Hand Pies are the perfect snack. Each hand pie is filled with sweet cherry pie filling sandwiched in between a flaky pie crust, then baked to perfection.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 package premade pie crust
1 21-ounce can cherry pie filling
1 egg, whisked
1 tablespoon sugar
Supplies:
1 5-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Unroll pie crust and use the heart cookie cutter to cut out eight heart shapes into the pie crusts.
  • Place four of the pie crusts on an ungreased baking sheet and place a spoonful of cherry pie filling in the center of eachheart.
  • Top each pie crust with another heart. Use a fork to seal the edges together.
  • Cut slits in the top of each crust.
  • Use a pastry brush to brush egg on top of each pie, then sprinkle with sugar.
  • Bake pies in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, until pie crusts are golden brown.
  • Allow to cool completely before serving.

  • Thaw pastry sheet wrapped in plastic overnight in the refrigerator, or at room temperature for 40 minutes or until easy to handle. Unfold pastry sheet on lightly floured surface. If there are any cracks in the pastry, sprinkle with water and press together to seal. Roll out puff pastry slightly so it's 12 inches long. Cut in to 8 pieces. Roll out each piece so it's big enough to to fit your heart. Cut out eight hearts.
  • Put four hearts on a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet. Spoon a tablespoon jam in the center of each heart. Brush edges with egg yolk and top each heart with another heart. Seal the edges together with the tines of a fork.
