I've been making this pie since I was in high school. It is very popular with my family especially at the holidays. It even makes a good chocolate pie if you want to leave out the nuts.

1 cup sugar
1/3 cup cocoa (hershey's)
3 eggs, slightly beaten
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup pecan halves
1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F
  • Stir together sugar and cocoa in medium bowl.
  • Add eggs, corn syrup, butter and vanilla; stir until well blended.
  • Stir in pecans.
  • Pour into unbaked pie crust.
  • Bake 60 minutes or until set.
  • Remove from oven to wire rack.
  • Cool completely.
  • Garnish with whipped topping.

This is made just like a traditional pecan pie, with the addition of chocolate chips. It is very fudgy. It is always the first dessert to go at our family's Thanksgiving!

1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
3 eggs
⅔ cup white sugar
½ teaspoon salt
⅓ cup margarine, melted
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup pecan halves
1 ½ cups semisweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Beat eggs, sugar, salt, margarine, and syrup with hand beater. Stir in pecans and chocolate chips. Pour mixture into pie shell.
  • Bake until set, 40 to 50 minutes. Cool.

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Prick bottom and sides of pie crust with fork. Press heavy-duty aluminum foil onto bottom and around side of pie crust; fill with uncooked rice or beans. Bake 10 minutes; remove foil and rice. Bake additional 7 minutes or until pale golden brown. Cool on wire rack.
  • Reduce oven temperature to 325°F. Stir together chocolate chips, pecans and flour in medium bowl; set aside.
  • Beat butter and brown sugar in large mixer bowl until well blended. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in corn syrup, vanilla and salt, beating just until blended. (Mixture may look curdled). Stir in pecan mixture. Pour mixture into baked pie crust.
  • Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until outer edges of pie are set and a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out with just melted chocolate. Center will still be jiggly. Cool completely on wire rack. Cover; store up to 2 days at room temperature or if storing longer, refrigerate.
