GARLIC AND ONION BURGERS



Garlic and Onion Burgers image

This recipe makes very flavorful burgers. The secret is refrigerating the meat after adding the other ingredients. Use ground round or sirloin for the best results.

2 pounds ground beef
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
3 cloves garlic, minced
½ cup minced onion
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon Italian-style seasoning

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix together the beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, onion, salt, pepper and Italian seasoning. Refrigerate for 2 to 4 hours.
  • Preheat grill for high heat.
  • Form burgers into 1/2 inch thick patties. Lightly oil grate. Place burgers on grill. Cook for approximately 6 minutes, turning once.

Cheddar cheese and Thousand Island dressing make this moist and juicy burger from Dave Bremson of Plantation, Florida a real family treat. The amount of flavor this burger packs with just a few simple ingredients will really surprise you.

1 large onion
1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste, optional
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1-1/2 pounds ground beef
6 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
6 tablespoons prepared Thousand Island salad dressing
6 lettuce leaves
6 slices tomato

Steps:

  • Slice onion into 1/2-in.-thick rings; thread onto metal or soaked wooden skewers. Brush with oil. Season with salt and pepper if desired. Grill, covered, over medium-hot heat for 8-10 minutes on each side., Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine the green pepper, cheese, parsley and Worcestershire sauce. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into six patties. , Move onion to indirect heat. Place burgers over direct heat. Cover and grill for 10-14 minutes or until meat is no longer pink and onion is tender, turning burgers once., Spread bun bottoms with dressing; top each with lettuce, tomato, onion and a burger. Replace bun tops.

1 tablespoon fat-free mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon spicy brown mustard
1 slice center-cut bacon or 1 slice turkey bacon
1/3 cup thinly sliced onion, cut into 2-inch strips
1 veggie burger, patty (Boca Original Vegan Meatless Burger)
1 slice 2% milk cheddar cheese
one 100-calorie flat sandwich bun (like Arnold or Brownberry or Oroweat Sandwich Thins)

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, mix mayo with mustard until uniform.
  • Cook bacon until crispy, either in a skillet over medium heat or on a microwave-safe plate in the microwave. (See package for cook time.)
  • Place onion in a skillet sprayed with nonstick spray. Add 1/4 cup water, cover, and set heat to medium. Cook for 6 minutes.
  • Uncover, and cook and stir until water has evaporated and onion has softened and lightly browned, about 3 minutes.
  • Transfer onion to a small bowl, and cover to keep warm.
  • If needed, clean skillet. Remove from heat, re-spray, and return to medium heat. Cook burger patty for about 4 minutes per side, until cooked through.
  • Top patty with cheese and cook until melted, about 45 seconds.
  • Split bun into halves, and place the cheese-topped patty on the bottom half. Break bacon in half, and place over the patty. Top with cooked onion.
  • Spread the top half of the bun with mayo mixture, and place it over the onion. Eat up!
