SWEET AND SOUR BEEF CUBES



Sweet and Sour Beef Cubes image

Great baked sweet and sour beef cubes. Good used on top of rice.

½ cup all-purpose flour, or as needed
1 (3 pound) beef chuck steak, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
3 onions, thinly sliced
¾ cup water
¾ cup ketchup
¼ cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 ½ tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
½ pinch white sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C).
  • Put flour into a large, sealable plastic bag; add beef cubes and seal bag. Shake bag to coat beef in flour; transfer beef to a large casserole dish.
  • Top beef with sliced onions.
  • Whisk water, ketchup, soy sauce, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and sugar together in a bowl; pour over the onion slices. Cover the dish with aluminum foil.
  • Bake in preheated oven until the beef is tender enough to pull apart with a fork, about 3 hours.

2 lbs boneless beef cubes
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons flour
2 garlic cloves, crushed
2 medium onions, coarsely chopped
2 cups mushrooms, coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup beef broth

Steps:

  • In medium bowl, mix flour salt and pepper. Dredge meat in seasoned mixture and sauté in oil until brown.
  • Place in slow cooker.
  • Add the onion, garlic and mushrooms to the pan and stir for a few minutes.
  • Deglaze pan with ketchup, worcestershire sauce and beef broth.
  • Pour liquid over meat.
  • Cook on Low for 7 hours.
  • Tips:.
  • Add a few potatoes and carrots to the meat and you have a dinner in a pot.
  • In lieu of potatoes and carrots, add 2 cups cooked pasta shells 1/2 hour before serving.

1 tablespoon chopped garlic
3 tablespoons finely chopped shallots
3 tablespoons Maggi sauce
3 tablespoons imported light Chinese soy sauce, or Japanese soy sauce
Freshly ground white pepper to taste
4 1/2 pounds strip steak or filet mignon, completely trimmed of fat and cut into 3/4-inch cubes
3 medium onions, thinly sliced and separated into rings
3 small red onions, finely sliced
1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
A few dashes white pepper
3 tablespoons white vinegar
6 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 large heads Boston lettuce
1/2 cup vegetable oil
6 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • For the marinade, combine the garlic, shallots, Maggi sauce, soy sauce and white pepper. Add the cubes of beef, stirring to coat meat well with the marinade. Marinate for at least 20 minutes at room temperature, or overnight in the refrigerator.
  • For the dressing, combine the red onions, garlic, white pepper, vinegar and oil.
  • Wash and dry the lettuce, breaking up into individual leaves. Arrange the lettuce on a large serving platter and, before cooking the beef, mix the dressing and pour over the lettuce.
  • Place two large skillets over high heat and divide one-half cup of vegetable oil between them. When the oil begins to smoke, add the drained beef slices and sliced onions. Stir-fry quickly and shake the pan until the beef is brown on the outside but rare inside. Turn off the heat, add butter, swirl and spoon immediately over lettuce-lined platter.

⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 pound beef for stew, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 (10.5 ounce) can Campbell's® Condensed Beef Broth
½ cup water
½ teaspoon dried thyme leaves, crushed
1 bay leaf
3 medium carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces
2 medium potatoes, cut into quarters

Steps:

  • Stir the flour and black pepper on a plate. Coat the beef with the flour mixture.
  • Heat the oil in a 6-quart saucepot over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until well browned, stirring often. Remove the beef from the saucepot. Pour off any fat.
  • Stir the broth, water, thyme, and bay leaf in the saucepot and heat to a boil. Return the beef to the saucepot. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Add the carrots and potatoes to the saucepot. Cover and cook for 30 minutes or until the beef is fork-tender and the vegetables are tender, stirring occasionally. Remove and discard the bay leaf.
