QUICK AND EASY FRENCH TOAST
Wake up to an irresistibly delicious breakfast that's super quick and easy to whip up using a few basic ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen. This French toast recipe soaks thick slices of bread in a mixture of milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and an egg before tossing each slice in a frying pan. Fluffy and tender on the inside and perfectly golden-brown on the outside, making French toast is one of our favorite - and most indulgent! - breakfast dishes. You can use any bread you have left over from the week to make this breakfast treat, but we especially love the density of sourdough, challah and brioche French toast. Drizzle with maple syrup and customize with different toppings like strawberries, blueberries, and honey butter for a scrumptious breakfast that's perfect for Easter brunch. Steps:
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, half-and-half, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla. Dunk each bread slice into the mixture so that it's fully coated. Set pieces aside on a plate.
- Heat a large nonstick skillet over low heat, then melt a small amount of butter. Add as many pieces as will fit, cut side down, then increase the heat very slightly (don't go above medium-low).
- Allow the toast to cook on the first side for 3 to 4 minutes. Move it around in the skillet a bit to make sure it doesn't burn. When it's deep golden brown on the surface, flip it to the other side and let it cook for another 2 minutes or so.
- Remove from the pan and cook the rest of the bread slices.
- Serve with butter, warm syrup, strawberries, and whipped cream. Absolute heaven!

Steps:
- Preheat a nonstick electric griddle to 300°F (150°C). (Alternatively, heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-low heat.)
- In a large bowl, whisk the eggs until well combined. Add the milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla bean paste and whisk until completely combined.
- Working in batches, dip each slice of challah in the custard, letting soak for 20-60 seconds on each side, until fully saturated but not soggy.
- Lightly grease the griddle with butter. Once melted, add the soaked challah on the griddle and cook, without disturbing, until golden brown and crispy, about 2 minutes. Use a flat spatula to flip the bread and continue cooking until the other side is golden brown, 2 minutes more. Wipe the pan clean between batches and add more butter as needed.
- Serve the French toast with a pat of butter, a drizzle of warm maple syrup, a sprinkle of flaky salt, and berries.
- Enjoy!

- FRENCH TOAST 2 WAYS: If deep-frying, use French bread (better size for deep-frying) and follow soaking time and cooking method in this RECIPE. This is my favorite because it is custardy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. If pan-frying, follow method below.
- Dip bread into mixture and soak for about 30-60 seconds on each side. Then, place slices on a rack set onto a sheet pan and let sit for about 2 minutes to drain off excess liquid..
