A simple DIY for homemade rose extract using organic edible rose petals. This extract is perfect for using within baked goods, puddings, cocktails, other drinks, and even for home and beauty uses. Plus, the process only requires two 'ingredients' and a super simple method!

3 cups Organic Edible Rose Petals
2 cups vodka (or rum (70 Proof- 35%))

Steps:

  • Wash the rose petals carefully to get off any critters and dirt. Then dry well.
  • Place the petals in a large sterilized glass jar and then pour the vodka over the petals, making sure to completely cover them in the liquid. Then close the jar and store in a dark, cool location, such as a cupboard, for 2-3 days.During this time, the flavor, smell, and even color will leech from the petals into the vodka.
  • Sieve the rose vodka mixture to remove the petals and then decant it into sterilized glass jars or even dropper bottles.

ROSE HIPS SYRUP

This syrup is an excellent high Vitamin C addition to your home remedy pantry alongside other essentials like Elderberry Syrup.

4 cups Water
1 pound Rose hips, fresh or dried (preferably organic and never sprayed with an insecticide or herbicide.)
1 cup Raw honey (optional)

Steps:

  • Bring the water to a boil.
  • Chop fresh rose hips or crush dried rose hips, then add to boiling water. Stir, bring back to a boil, then turn off heat.
  • Allow rose hips to steep in hot water for 45 minutes.
  • After 45 minutes, strain the resulting rose hip tea through a cheese cloth or flour sack towel lined-strainer into a large measuring cup or bowl.
  • Wash pot well and make sure there are no rose hips remaining. Add rose hips tea back into the pot and bring up to a boil, then turn down heat to medium and allow to simmer until reduced by half.
  • Once reduced, pour tea into a measuring cup and allow to cool slightly. If using honey, add it now. Mix well and allow the honey to dissolve completely. Decant syrup into a bottle and refrigerate.
  • Syrup should stay fresh for at least six months, but may stay fresh up to one year. (See "Recipe Notes" below for more information regarding shelf life.)

  • You're going to need a high-quality milk frother to get that creamy foam that makes this Rose Latte so unique. Once you have one, pour your choice of milk in and froth it to perfection.
  • Pour the milk over your rose tea, mix everything together, then sit back and enjoy the fragrant aroma and taste until your heart's content.
