Low to No Calorie Diet Iced Tea image

A low to no calorie recipe for a full gallon of presweetened, robust iced tea, using sugar substitute.

8 cups ice cold water
8 cups boiling water
4 family sized tea bags, Luzianne preferred
1-1/2 cups no calorie granular sweetener (like Splenda), or to taste

Steps:

  • Fill a one-gallon pitcher with 8 cups cold water; set aside.
  • Boil the remaining 8 cups water, add tea bags and steep for 6 minutes. Lightly squeeze the tea bags, remove and compost or discard.
  • Whisk in the sweetener until fully dissolved. See notes below for alternative sweetener suggestions.
  • Carefully add the tea concentrate to the cold water, stir and set aside to cool to room temperature.
  • Refrigerate until the tea is fully chilled and flavor develops, before serving.

2 black tea bags
1 cup peach slices (fresh or frozen)
10 mint sprigs
4 cups water
3 black tea bags
1/2 cup zero calorie all-natural sweetener
1 lime (cut into rings)
4 cups water
2 green tea bags
1/3 cup zero calorie all-natural sweetener
Juice of 1 lime
10 mint sprigs
4 cups water
2 green tea bags
1 cup cranberries (frozen or fresh)
1/2 cup zero calorie all-natural sweetener
4 cups water
2 jasmine tea bags
1/3 cup zero calorie all-natural sweetener

Steps:

  • Cut off the tags of the tea bags (if they have them).
  • In a large pot bring the water to a boil.
  • Add the tea bags, remove cover and remove from heat. Allow to steep for 15 minutes.
  • Remove the tea bags and add in the additional ingredients (fruit, zero calorie all-natural sweetener, mint, etc.) mix and allow to cool completely.
  • Strain the fruit etc. out, and pour into a pitcher. Refrigerate until cold.
  • Serve over ice, with additional garnishes... If the recipe called for lemons, add lemon slices, etc.

You might find it hard to believe that I conjured up this recipe because I bought a kegerator w/ CO2 system. Since I have the perfect beverage distribution system, I felt bad hogging it all to myself to fill with only homebrew. So, I have a a single tap on there for kids to drink from. And therein lies the problem. The kids drink lots.. which is good on a hot summers day, except for all the sugar and caffeine that they'd ingest with traditional iced tea. So this is an iced tea recipe that I will triple and fill up a 3 gallon keg with, that will not lead to supercharged 2 year olds that run into things and bump their heads (as much), or as many bloodcurdling screams of hyper adolescents in the backyard. And I like it because I don't want the jolt of sugar.

1 raspberry herbal tea bag

  • Boil 4 cups of water.
  • Steep tea bags in water for 3-5 minutes. Remove.
  • Mix the remainder of ingredients into the hot tea until dissolved.
  • Fill a 1 gallon pitcher 1/3 full of ice cubes.
  • Pour hot tea mixture over ice cubes. Add water to fill pitcher.
