1 1/2 ounces white or aged rum
1 ounce guava juice
1 ounce orange juice, freshly squeezed
1/2 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1/3 ounce simple syrup
Garnish: orange slice
Garnish: candied cherry

Steps:

  • Add the rum, guava juice, orange juice, lemon juice and simple syrup into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled.
  • Strain into a Collins glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Garnish with an orange slice and a candied cherry.

This tropical fruity drink was created in 1996 in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, as part of a competition to designate Nicaragua's national cocktail. To create this cocktail, they used Flor de Caña rum. But any high quality, premium dry white rum should work...

1 1/2 oz flor de cana dry rum (a premium dry white rum)
1 oz guava juice
1 oz lemon juice
1/2 oz orange juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
ice cubes
1 orange slice, for garnish

Steps:

  • 1. Add about 1/2 cup of ice cubes to a cocktail shaker. Add rum, guava juice, lemon juice, orange juice and simple syrup. Shake for 25 seconds.
  • 2. Add fresh ice cubes to a Collins glass. Strain cocktail into the Collins glass. Garnish with an orange slice, and serve with a straw.

! This fruity concoction was named el Macuá, after a tropical bird found in Central America an is the Nicaraguan national drink! The drink is one part white rum, one part guava juice, with a half-portion of lemon juice and some sugar and ice. Hopefully you can use Rum from Nicaragua but since I always have Bacardi on hand, that is what I used. I wasn't able to actually find the exact amounts for this drink. All of the recipes just said equal parts etc. Adjust this if you need to but keep the portions as stated above to keep it authentic!
