Homemade Big Mac image

The Homemade Big Mac tastes even better when you make this one at home.

1 1/2 pounds ground chuck
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon of butter
¼ cup special sauce
5 slices of American cheese
1 tablespoon minced onion
15 dill pickle slices

Steps:

  • In a bowl combine ground chuck and salt and pepper. Shape meat into 10 meat patties. Shape patties somewhat thin. Set a griddle to 350 degrees. Place meat on the griddle and cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Season with a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Flip burgers and cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes on each side, or until juices from the meat run clear.
  • Spread softened butter on cut sides of bun and place on griddle until the bread begins to brown. Flip the middle bun and allow to toast on both sides.
  • Build the burger by starting at the bottom. The bottom bun, Big Mac sauce, onions, lettuce, cheese, hamburger patty, and the middle bun. Spread the Big Mac sauce, onion, lettuce, hamburger patty, two or three pickle slices, and finally the top bun.

This is a copycat of McDonald's Big Mac Sandwich (A double layer of sear-sizzled 100% pure beef mingled with special sauce on a sesame seed bun and topped with melty American cheese, crisp lettuce, minced onions and tangy pickles). 1/3 cup low-fat mayonnaise
2 teaspoons dill pickle relish
2 teaspoons ketchup
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons yellow mustard
1 tablespoon white onion, finely chopped
1 teaspoon white onion, finely chopped
1/3 cup lean ground beef (96% lean)
1/4 teaspoon salt, divided
1 sesame seed hamburger bun
1 sesame seed hamburger bun (bottom)
1 slice yellow American cheese (Kraft recommended)
2 tablespoons hamburger relish, sauce
1 teaspoon hamburger relish, sauce
1 teaspoon white onion, finely chopped
1/3 cup iceberg lettuce, shredded
2 dill pickles, rounds

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, relish, ketchup, sugar, and mustard. Stir to blend well. Cover and refrigerate for up to 1 month. Stir in the onion just before serving.
  • Divide the beef in half. On a sheet of waxed paper, shape each half into a 4-inch patty. Season both sides with the salt. Transfer the waxed paper to a plate. Place, uncovered, in the freezer for 5 minutes.
  • Preheat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until drops of water sizzle when splashed on the pan. Place the patties in the pan. Cook until no longer pink (1-2 minutes per side).
  • Meanwhile, place the bun top and bottoms, cut sides down, in the pan. Cook until toasted, about 1 minute. (If the pan is not large enough to hold the patties and the buns, first cook one of the patties with the bottom bun and then start assembling the sandwich while the others cook). Just before the patties are cooked, place the cheese on one of the patties.
  • Place one of the bun bottoms on a plate. Spread on 1 tablespoon of the sauce. Place the cheeseburger, cheese side down, on the bun. Spread 1 teaspoon of the sauce on the second bun bottom and place, sauce side down, on the cheeseburger.
  • Top with the remaining sauce, the onion, lettuce, pickles, the remaining burger and the bun top.
