Soft, bakery style sugar cookies with no rolling required. Perfect for holiday decorating.

1/2 cup butter, room temperature
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 cups powdered sugar
5 tablespoons milk
1 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Combine butter and sugars in a medium bowl. Using an electric mixer, beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; continue beating until well mixed. Mix in cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Gradually mix in flour
  • Shape dough into 1 1/2 inch balls. Place 2 inches apart onto cookie sheets. Flatten to about 1 1/2 inches with bottom of glass (if the glass sticks, dip it in sugar first).
  • Bake for 7-9 minutes or until edges of cookies are lightly browned. Do not over-bake. Let cookies stand for 2-3 minutes on cookie sheet before removing to a cooling rack. Cool completely.
  • To make frosting, combine butter and cream cheese until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract and salt. Add powdered sugar in 1-2 cup increments until combined, then add milk one tablespoon at a time until frosting is desired spreading consistency. You may not use all the milk.

1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 egg
2 1/3 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Colored sugar or granulated sugar

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F. Line cookie sheets with cooking parchment paper; set aside.
  • In large bowl, beat 1 cup granulated sugar and butter with electric mixer on low speed or with spoon until light and fluffy. Stir in vanilla, nutmeg and egg. Stir in flour and baking soda. Shape dough by teaspoonfuls into balls. Place 2 inches apart on lined cookie sheets. Flatten slightly with bottom of glass dipped in sugar.
  • Bake 9 to 11 minutes or until set. Remove from cookie sheets to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 20 minutes. Store covered in airtight container.

These easy no roll Sugar Cookies are a cinch to make! Simply mix the ingredients together and bake; no chilling, no rolling pins and no messy floured counters!

½ cup butter (unsalted)
½ cup shortening ((not butter flavored))
1 ⅔ cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
⅛ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon vanilla
3 egg yolks
1 ¾ cup flour

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300°F.
  • Cream butter & shortening on medium until combined. Add sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt. Continue beating until fluffy, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.
  • Add in egg yolks & vanilla until combined.
  • Beat in flour a little bit at a time. Divide into 24 even pieces and roll into balls.
  • Bake 15-17 minutes or just until set (you do not want the cookies to brown). Cool on the cookie sheet about 3 minutes and cool completely on a wire rack.

1/3 cup shortening
1/3 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp almond extract
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups plus 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened/room temperature
1 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp milk
2 cups powdered sugar

Steps:

  • FOR THE COOKIES: Preheat oven to 350*F. Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream shortening, butter & sugar until fluffy. Add egg & extracts. Mix together.
  • Combine baking powder, salt & flour in a separate bowl. Gradually add to wet mixture until well blended.
  • Using a cookie scoop (I use a #50 scoop about 1½ Tbsp per scoop) scoop dough balls. For best cookie results: Lightly roll dough balls in hands, place on parchment lined baking sheet & press the top of the cookie halfway down. This creates the best shape & flat top to spread frosting on compared to just scooping & placing the dough on the baking sheets. Refer to the picture provided.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges of the cookies are set. Allow cookies to cool after baking.
  • FOR THE FROSTING: In a bowl with a hand mixer, beat butter until fluffy. Add vanilla & milk. Blend lightly. Add powdered sugar a cup at a time, mixing between additions. The texture should be solid, yet soft (not stiff & dry; if it's dry, add an extra tsp or so of milk.)
  • Frost cookies & top with sprinkles, sugar crystals or other desired toppings.

3 cups confectioners' sugar
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract, or more to taste
2 tablespoons milk, or as needed

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Beat vegetable shortening, white sugar, 1/4 cup milk, eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract together in a bowl. Whisk flour, salt, and baking soda in a separate bowl. Slowly beat flour mixture into shortening mixture to make a smooth dough.
  • Roll dough out 1/4-inch thick on a floured work surface and cut into shapes. Arrange cookies on baking sheets.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until cookies are firm, about 10 minutes. Let cool.
  • Beat butter, confectioners' sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 2 tablespoons milk in a bowl with an electric mixer on high speed until frosting is spreadable and slightly fluffy. Frost cooled cookies.

Steps:

  • In large bowl, beat 1 cup granulated sugar, the powdered sugar, butter, oil, milk, vanilla and eggs with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in remaining ingredients except 1/4 cup granulated sugar. Cover; refrigerate about 2 hours or until firm.
  • Heat oven to 350°F. Place 1/4 cup granulated sugar in small bowl. Shape dough into 1 1/2-inch balls. Roll balls in sugar. On ungreased cookie sheet, place balls about 3 inches apart. Flatten to 1/4-inch thickness with bottom of glass. Sprinkle cookies with a little additional sugar.
  • Bake 13 to 15 minutes or until set and edges just begin to brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack.
