OLLIVANDER'S WANDS

Ollivander's Wands image

If you're as much of a Harry Potter nut as we are then these are PERFECT for your HP or magic themed party! Simple to make and very easy to get the kids involved. Fun, yummy and easily adaptable to what you have on hand. I serve these every year at our Halloween Party. Kid tested and family approved =)

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 5

15 oz package pretzel rods
1 pkg (12 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 Tbsp shortening
assorted sprinkles, colored sugar and small candies
white chocolate chips (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Lay out some wax paper or foil on a baking sheet.
  • 2. Combine the chocolate chips and the shortening in a large microwave-safe bowl, and microwave until the chocolate is melted, stirring after every 20 seconds. Chocolate over cooks easily so WATCH your chocolate!
  • 3. Dip each pretzel rod into chocolate, not quite half way. Roll in sprinkles to coat the frosting and place on baking sheet. Continue until you've done all your pretzels.
  • 4. Place pretzels in the fridge for about 1/2 hour to set.
  • 5. If you want you can sub white chocolate in this recipe or melt a bit of white chocolate and drizzle it over the wands for a fancy look. You can even use food coloring gel to color coordinate with your party theme. If using white chocolate pretzels will need to be set again after.

How to make Crispy and Addictive Cheese Straws image

Really addictive cheese straws!

Provided by Marilena Leavitt

Categories     Appetizer

Time 25m

Yield 60 pieces

Number Of Ingredients 6

1½ cups extra-sharp Cheddar cheese, coarsely grated and kept cold
1 cup AP four
6 TBSP. cold butter, cut into pieces
½ tsp. salt
⅛-¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
1½ TBSP. milk

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 °F. Place the oven racks in the upper and lower thirds of the oven.
  • Place the cheese, flour, butter, salt and cayenne pepper in a food processor. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Add the milk and pulse until the dough forms a ball.
  • Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface into a 12x10" rectangle, about ⅛" thick. Using a lightly floured pizza wheel, (or a lightly floured sharp knife), cut the dough into ½" wide strips.
  • Carefully transfer the strips to two baking sheets lined with parchment paper (if the strips tear don't panic; just pinch them back together.)
  • Bake, switching the position of the sheets halfway through baking, until pale golden, about 15 minutes. Cool completely on the baking sheets on top of racks.
