ORANGE SLICE BARS

Steps:
- Heat oven to 350°F. Generously grease 15x10x1-inch pan with shortening or cooking spray.
- In large bowl, stir together melted butter and brown sugar. Add eggs; mix well. Add flour, chopped candies and pecans; stir until well blended. Pour batter into pan.
- Bake 25 minutes. Cool 15 minutes. Cut into 9 rows by 4 rows. Cool completely in pan on cooling rack. Remove bars from pan; cut each in half diagonally. Sprinkle bars with powdered sugar.

- For the crust: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9-by-13-inch pan with butter.
- Stir together the flour, granulated sugar and salt in a bowl. Add the butter to the bowl and use a pastry cutter to cut it all together until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Press into the prepared pan and bake until golden around the edges, about 20 minutes.
- For the filling: Stir together the granulated sugar and flour in a bowl. Crack in the eggs and whisk to combine. Add the orange zest and juice and mix until combined. Pour over the crust and bake until the filling is set, about 20 minutes.
- Allow to cool in the fridge for a minimum of 2 hours, then sift powdered sugar over the top before cutting into 16 pieces.
ORANGE SLICE COOKIES I
Steps:
- In large mixing bowl, cream together sugars and shortening till fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir into creamed mixture.
- Stir in the oats, and the orange candy. NOTE: Dip a pair of kitchen shears into a glass of hot water or spray with a non-stick spray to make snipping the orange slices easier. Using about one tablespoon of mixture for each cookie, roll into one inch balls. Place on greased cookie sheets.
- Bake in a 350 degree F (175 degrees C) oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove and cool on a wire rack.

Steps:
- Make dough as directed on pouch for drop cookies. Stir in chocolate chunks, almonds and orange peel.
- Divide dough in half; shape each half into a roll, 8 inches long and 2 inches in diameter. Roll in sugar. Wrap dough logs tightly with plastic. Refrigerate about 2 hours or until very firm.
- Heat oven to 375°F. Unwrap 1 of the dough logs; cut into 1/2-inch slices. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets, reshaping if necessary. Repeat with remaining dough log.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are set. Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 1 1/2 hours or until chocolate is set. Store covered in airtight container.

- Stir together soda and 1 1/2 T water until dissolved.
- Beat shortening (butter) at medium speed with an electric mixer until fluffy. Gradually add sugars, beating until fluffy. Add soda mixture, eggs, candy, pecans and coconut. Beat until blended.
- Combine flour, oats and baking powder. Gradually add to shortening mixture, beating until blended.
- Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto lightly greased baking sheets.
- Bake at 350 for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool.
- Stir together powdered sugar and orange juice; drizzle over cookies.

- In a large bowl, combine candy and water. Cover and refrigerate overnight; drain well and set aside. , In a large bowl, cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. - In a saucepan combine the dates, 1/2 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, and water. Bring to a boil, and cook until thickened, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat, and set aside to cool.
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, cream together the shortening and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve the baking soda in hot water, then stir into the creamed mixture. Combine 1 3/4 cups of flour and salt; stir into the batter just until blended.
- Spread half of the batter in the bottom of the prepared pan. Cover with a layer of orange slice candy, then spread the date mixture over the orange candy. Cover with the remaining batter.
- Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown. Cool, and cut into bars.

One of my favorite recipes that I remember my mother making when I was a child of the 40's. These bars contain coconut and maraschino cherries and bring back memories of a kitchen "full of love"!

Steps:
- In a large mixing bowl add the candy orange slices, coconut, walnuts and cherries.
- Over this mixture sift the flour, baking powder and salt.
- Mix well.
- In a separate bowl beat the eggs with the water, vanilla and brown sugar.
- Add the eggs and brown sugar mixture to the flour mixture and mix until just blended. This mixture will be very stiff.
- Pour into a greased 9x13 baking pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, or until firm to the touch in the middle.
- Cool and cut into bars.
- Dust with powdered sugar.
