8 (1/2-inch) thick slices sourdough bread or peasant bread, buttered on 1 side
3 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped with a heavy knife

Steps:

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
Lay slices of the bread, butter side down, on an ungreased sheet pan. Sprinkle evenly with the chopped chocolate, covering the bread to within 1/4-inch of the crust. Cover each with a second slice of bread, butter side up. Press closed with the back of a spatula. Bake until the bread is golden and the chocolate begins to melt, about 5 to 7 minutes. Using a spatula, carefully turn each sandwich over and bake 5 to 7 minutes more. Let cool slightly before serving.

Ingredients

4 -6 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
2 tablespoons butter, melted
8 slices bread, thick
icing sugar

Steps:

Brush butter on one side of the slices of bread. On a work surface, put 4 slices of bread, buttered-side down, and sprinkle with chocolate up to 1/4 inch from the crust. Cover with remaining slices of bread, buttered-side up.
In a large striped pan or non-stick skillet, cook sandwiches at medium-low heat, 2 at the same time, 6 to 8 minutes or until chocolate has melted and the bread is golden (press them with a spatula and flip at mid-cooking). Cook remaining sandwiches the same way.
Cut sandwiches in 2 and sprinkle with icing sugar. Serve warm.
