This a Filipino delicacy! Milk candies are very easy to make. They are soft and sweet and perfect to bring for any gatherings. No cooking required.

1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups powdered milk
¼ cup white sugar

Steps:

  • Pour condensed milk into a bowl. Sift powdered milk into the condensed milk and mix thoroughly with a spatula. Let sit for 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Pour sugar onto a plate. Shape mixture into small logs and roll in the sugar. Wrap pastillas de leche individually in plastic wrap.

Found this recipe on PanlasangPinoy.com a great site for Filippino recipes. These are little milk candies shaped into little cylinders, traditionally made with water buffalo milk and wrapped in celophane. This recipe is nicely adapted for those who don't have access to a water buffalo! It uses powdered milk instead. Simple! Can't wait to try these! Note: I can't tell how many the recipe makes, it says it serves 4. I recommend looking at the blog to see what the candy should look like!

2 cups powdered milk, sifted
1 (14 ounce) can condensed milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar, sifted

Steps:

  • Place the condensed milk in a large mixing bowl.
  • Gradually fold-in the powdered milk. The texture of the mixture will be similar to dough once all the powdered milk is completely added.
  • Scoop some of the mixture and mold into cylinders.
  • Roll each molded cylindrical mixture on granulated sugar.
  • Wrap in paper or cellophane.
  • Serve for dessert. Share and enjoy!

3 cups powdered milk, sifted plus 1/4cup extra for dusting
1 cup condensed milk
Lemon or orange extract, (optional)
1/2 cup granulated sugar, for coating
Wax paper or cellophane, for wrapping

Steps:

  • Place sifted powdered milk in a big bowl and make a well in the center. Pour condensed milk and lemon or orange extract (if using flavor extract) in powdered milk. Using a spoon or spatula mix the milk from the center slowly outwards until incorporated and forms a soft dough. The texture should be similar to a sticky fondant. Cut wax paper or cellophane into rectangle with 1½ inches larger than your desired size of pastillas de leche "milk candy". Prepare extra milk powder and refined sugar on a separate bowls and set aside. Scoop some of the milk mixture, and using your clean hands make a ball. If it's a bit sticky just dunk in a bowl of extra powdered milk, shake off excess and roll into cylinders until smooth and shiny. Roll in a bowl of refined sugar until evenly coated and shake off excess sugar. Wrap in prepared wax paper or cellophane. And keep on scooping, rolling, and wrapping until you're done. Store in an airtight container or a jar at room temperature.
