PITTSBURGH STYLE STEAK SALAD RECIPE



Pittsburgh Style Steak Salad Recipe image

Pittsburgh-style steak is not a regular steak style. It is cooked quickly at high temperatures so that the meat crust is charred and the inside is raw and rare. This dish might not have a vast fan base but has a devoted and keen following.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Salt and Black Pepper
2 Sweet Potatoes
½ tbsp Chilli Powder
½ tbsp Garlic Powder
1 ½ lb. Flank Steak
1 pint Cherry Tomatoes
2 Heads Lettuce
2 ears Corn
1 Chopped Cucumber
1 Chopped Avocado
½ Chopped Red Onion
1 Garlic Clove
1 Lemon Zest
¼ cup Water
2 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
2 Scallion Tops
1 cup Cilantro
1 cup Parsley
Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper
1 cup Avocado Oil Mayonnaise

Steps:

  • Firstly, preheat the oven to 425˚ F. Place the sweet potatoes on a lined sheet pan and drizzle olive oil. Then, sprinkle chilli powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Roast them in the oven for 30 minutes to make the potatoes soft.
  • In the meantime, heat a cast iron pan on medium heat and pour 1 tablespoon of olive oil on it. Now, add to it the steak seasoned with salt and pepper. Cook each side for 4 minutes, cover it with a lid and rest for 10 minutes.
  • While the steak rests, prepare your dressing. Process all the ingredients of the dressing in a high-speed blender until they're smooth. You may add water to attain the required consistency of the dressing.
  • Now, cut the steak across the grain.
  • In a large bowl, add corn, tomatoes, red onion, lettuce, cucumber and avocado. To this, add the steak and roasted sweet potatoes.
  • To serve the salad, drizzle it with the dressing and dig in for a delicious and healthy bite.

3 (2 oz) steaks
garlic salt
fresh ground pepper
1/2 a bag of French Fries
1 bag of romaine salad
3 oz cherry tomatoes
1 small onion (sliced)
1 cucumber (sliced)
1/2 cup croutons
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
1/ 4 cup Ranch Dressing

Steps:

  • Bake the fries in the oven according to the bag instructions.
  • Season the steaks with a little garlic salt and pepper.
  • Cook the steaks to your desired likeness, then slice them into strips, and set aside.
  • Divide the salad between two plates.
  • All some the tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions to the salad on each plate.
  • Top it off with the french fries.
  • Place each steak onto the salads.
  • Sprinkle on some the Parmesan cheese.
  • Add a few croutons for garnish.
  • Drizzle on the Ranch dressing and ENJOY!

4 ounces white balsamic
1 ounce Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
4 ounces 80/20 vegetable olive oil blend
1 head iceberg lettuce
2 ounces grapeseed oil
1 pound beef medallions
1 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 large vine ripe tomato, sliced 1/4-thick
1/2 cup red onion rings (1/4-inch thick)
1 cup crumbled blue cheese

Steps:

  • For the dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together the vinegar, mustard salt and pepper. Next, slowly drizzle in the oil until smooth and emulsified.
  • For the salad: Peel and clean the exterior of the lettuce head, then from top to bottom, slice and quarter the lettuce. Next, over medium-high heat, add grapeseed oil to a saute pan and allow to warm. Sprinkle both sides of each medallion with the salt and pepper, and then add the medallions to the pan. Allow the medallion to cook, in batches if needed, for 2 to 3 minutes on the first side, and then flip and repeat the process. After cooking the second side, remove and allow the medallions to rest. To build the salad, lay the lettuce on plate, and then add the tomato, onion, blue cheese and 2 ounces of dressing and serve.

3 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons canola oil
1 to 2 tablespoons malt vinegar
1-1/2 teaspoons water
1 cup frozen french-fried potatoes
1/2 pound beef top sirloin steak
3 cups torn iceberg lettuce
1/3 cup chopped tomato
1/4 cup chopped red onion
1/2 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • For dressing, whisk first 4 ingredients until sugar is dissolved. Cook potatoes according to package directions., Meanwhile, place a skillet coated with cooking spray over medium heat. Add steak; cook until meat reaches desired doneness (for medium-rare, a thermometer should read 135°; medium, 140°), 5-6 minutes per side. Remove from heat; let stand 5 minutes before slicing., To serve, divide lettuce, tomato and onion between 2 plates; top with potatoes, steak and cheese. Drizzle with dressing.

I lived in Pittsburgh for 5 years and never would have thought I'd ever see French fries in a salad. You will probably only see this recipe in Pittsburgh restaurants which makes it special and unique! It's very delicious. Add your favorite dressing.

1 ½ pounds sirloin steak
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
salt and ground black pepper to taste
cooking spray
1 (16 ounce) package frozen seasoned french-fried potatoes
13 ounces romaine lettuce, torn
1 cucumber, sliced
2 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and sliced
1 ½ cups croutons
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • Rub sirloin steaks with vegetable oil and season with salt and pepper. Let the steaks warm at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Prepare a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  • Spread French fries onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake French fries in the preheated oven until slightly browned, about 15 minutes.
  • While the fries bake, cook steaks on preheated grill until beginning to firm and are hot and slightly pink in the center, 6 to 8 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 140 degrees F (60 degrees C). Remove steaks to a cutting board.
  • Mix romaine lettuce, cucumber, and egg together in a salad bowl. Pile French fries atop the salad mixture.
  • Cut steaks into bite-size pieces and arrange atop the French fries. Sprinkle croutons and mozzarella cheese over the entire salad.
