Ingredients

1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 sprigs fresh rosemary, plus 1 sprig for garnish
4 tablespoons bourbon
Splash seltzer
Crushed or cracked ice, for serving

Steps:

Place the sugar, 1/4 cup water and 2 sprigs rosemary in a saucepan and bring to a simmer over low heat to dissolve the sugar. Remove the pan from the heat and let the rosemary syrup cool. (This will make a bit more than you need but can be kept in the fridge for quite some time.)
Place 3 tablespoons of the rosemary syrup, the bourbon and seltzer in a shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously until cold and pour in a rocks glass filled with crushed or cracked ice. Garnish with a fresh rosemary sprig.

Three different kinds of melons make up this colorful fruit medley. Lime juice and soda, plus a hint of mint, season this pretty citrus salad from Sue Ross of Casa Grande, Arizona.

3 cups watermelon balls
3 cups honeydew balls
2 cups cantaloupe balls
½ cup orange juice
½ cup lime juice
¼ cup granulated artificial sweetener
2 tablespoons minced fresh mint leaves
2 teaspoons grated orange peel
2 teaspoons grated lime peel
1 cup diet lemon-lime soda

Steps:

In a large bowl, combine the melon balls. In a small bowl, combine the orange juice, lime juice, sugar substitute, mint, orange peel and lime peel. Pour over melon; toss gently to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours or until chilled. Just before serving, add soda and toss gently.

3 maraschino cherries, preferably French cherries in Kirsch brandy
1 teaspoon maraschino cherry juice, preferably from French cherries in Kirsch brandy
1 teaspoon sugar
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 1/2 ounces gin
1 ounce sloe gin, preferably Plymouth
1 ounce cherry brandy, preferably cherry Heering
Ice cubes
Cracked ice
Seltzer
1/2 lemon slice, for garnish

Steps:

In a mixing glass, muddle together cherries, cherry juice, sugar, and lemon juice. Add gin, sloe gin, and cherry brandy. Add ice cubes and stir, at least 30 seconds, to combine. Fill a rocks glass with cracked ice; strain cocktail over cracked ice. Top with seltzer and garnish with lemon slice. Serve immediately.

Sprigs of young mint
2 ounces bourbon
Crushed ice

Steps:

Pour the Apry into a highball glass, add 3 or 4 small mint leaves and muddle.
Add the bourbon and fill glass with crushed ice.
Stir until frost forms on outside of glass, and garnish with 3 or 4 mint sprigs. Serve with two straws.
