ROSE BEADS

Rose Beads image

Rose petals can be used for making jewelry and in particular, to make beads. This can be used to make a romantic necklace for a loved one, and kids will enjoy this too! You will need # 24 florist's wire for this recipe.

Categories     < 30 Mins

Time 20m

Yield 1 batch

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 tablespoons salt
1 3/4 cups flour
water
3 cups rose petals
rose extract (optional)

Steps:

  • Measure 4 tablespoons of salt and 1 3/4 cups of flour into a bowl, then add a little water to make a smooth dough. Finely chop three cups of rose petals, then press them into the dough. On a floured counter, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
  • Use a thimble to cup the dough. Roll the circles in your palms till it forms a smooth ball. The shapes can be round, oval or even square if you want.
  • When you finish rolling each bead, string it on #24 florist's wire. The beads should then be hung in a dark place until they are dry. As the beads are drying, move them around occasionally to keep them from sticking together. You can then string them onto some dental floss. The beads are now ready to be made into a necklace.
  • Experiment with not only silver and gold, but also try crystal beads with your rose beads, for a different look. If you wish for more fragrance, try a drop of rose oil or rose extract on the necklace beads. Have fun!

ROSE PETAL ROSARY BEADS

Rose Petal Rosary Beads image

My mother had a group of nuns make her a rosary from the rose petals at my father's funeral... This is the recipe... minus the praying nuns... The beads can be used to make other things like bracelets, earrings and necklaces. They can also be made into beaded curtains. You can meditate or pray for the person you are making these for.. as you choose. :)

Categories     Other Non-Edibles

Number Of Ingredients 15

DOUGH
2 gallon fresh rose petals
3 tablespoon(s) rose oil
1 teaspoon(s) rose perfume (like avon's roses roses)
TOOLS
1 - rolling pin
1 - sewing thimbal
1 - roll florists wire (hat pins work too)
3 - rolls dental floss (or jewely string)
- decorative crystal, ceramic or steel beads or rings
- medal, cross, other embelishments
POLISHING
- shallow dish or pan
- rose oil (olive oil is less desireable)
- clean cloths

Steps:

  • Gather and prepare two gallons of rose petals.
  • Process the petals in a food processor to form a dough. Add in the rose oil and rose perfume. Pulse to incorporate the scents into the dough. This should yield about 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 cups of dough.
  • Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thick. Using a sewing thimble, cut out circles of dough.
  • Form one circle of dough at a time into evenly sized and shaped balls.
  • Thread each ball onto a florists wire or hat pin. When all the dough is used up (re-roll as need, and cut out more circles as needed), set them aside in a clean dry place for about a week or two in order for them to completely dry.
  • The florist wire or hat pins will form a hole in each bead. The beads will shrink in size as they dry (about by 1/3 in size).
  • When beads are completely dry. Remove them from the florist wire or hat pins. Place them into a very shallow dish or pan. Pour the polishing rose oil into the dish/pan until it is halfway covering the beads. Roll the beads around in the oil occasionally. Soaking and rolling them for at least two hours.
  • Wipe each bead with a clean smooth cloth to polish them.
  • String the beads onto dental floss with 3 of the crystal, ceramic or steel beads/rings between each of your rose beads.
  • *** You can make curtains or jewelry with the beads. *** If you have a favorite rosary, use it as your pattern, adding what you see fit (like beads, rings, cross)
