Steps:
- Drain black beans, and rinse.
- Combine beans, jalapenos, and chicken broth in a slow cooker. Season with garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, cayenne, pepper, and hot pepper sauce.
- Cook on High for 4 hours. Reduce heat to Low, and continue cooking for 2 hours, or until you are ready to eat.

- Pour beans into a bowl and remove any debris. Rinse generously with water and strain.
- Combine black beans, water, onion, garlic, salt, pork bone, jalapeno pepper, and bay leaf in a slow cooker.

- In a 3-qt. slow cooker, combine the first 6 ingredients. Cook, covered, on low until vegetables are softened, 6-8 hours., Puree soup using an immersion blender, or cool soup slightly and puree in batches in a blender. Return to slow cooker and heat through., In a small skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add corn; cook and stir until golden brown, 4-6 minutes. Sprinkle soup with pepper. SLOW COOKER BLACK BEAN SOUP

Steps:
- Rinse the beans and add them to the slow cooker. No need to soak. If you want to soak the beans overnight, you can, but drain the beans before starting the recipe.
- Add the chicken broth, diced tomatoes, ham hock, onion, jalapeno, garlic, chili powder, onion powder, and pepper. WAIT TO ADD THE CILANTRO AND SALT.
- Cover and cook on HIGH for 7 hours without opening the lid during the cooking time.
- Remove the ham hock onto a plate, remove any meat you can find off the ham hock, shred and put into the beans. (note that sometimes there is no meat on a ham hock, do fret, your beans are fine without this).
- Add the cilantro, stir
- Taste for salt, adding the desired amount.
- Serve and enjoy!

I modified a bean soup recipe and came up with this wonderful chili. I make it mild, as that's how my family likes it, then I just add Tabasco sauce to mine. A fun alternative to traditional chili!

- In a crock pot (slow cooker), mix the beans (with their liquid), salsa, chicken broth, corn, cumin and Rotel tomatoes.
- Then take the casing off the sausages and break into bite-sized pieces and put into the crock pot.

SLOW-COOKER BAKED BEANS WITH CHORIZO AND LIME
Beans stewed with pork, tomato and something sweet is a traditional side dish at potlucks. This easy slow-cooker version is uncommonly kicky and bright, flavored with spiced Mexican-style chorizo, cilantro and lots of lime juice. Use cooked, smoked or cured chorizo, but don't use dry-cured Spanish-style chorizo, which is a different kind of sausage altogether. There's flexibility built into this recipe: If you like slightly sweet baked beans, use the larger amount of sugar. If you prefer a result that's barely sweet, use the smaller amount. Likewise, the lime juice can be assertive or gentle, so use the larger or smaller amount to your taste. You may be tempted to add more liquid to the slow cooker, but resist the urge. The onion and sausage release liquid when cooking, so if you add more you will end up with bean soup instead of baked beans.

- In a 6- to 8-quart slow cooker, combine the soaked beans, chorizo, onion, garlic, chicken broth, tomato purée, sugar, butter, tomato paste, onion and garlic powders, red-pepper flakes, cumin and paprika. Season with 1 1/2 teaspoons salt (or 2 1/2 teaspoons if using unsalted stock) and a generous amount of black pepper.
