These tender breadsticks fill the kitchen with a tempting aroma when they are baking, and they're wonderful served warm. My family tells me I can't make them too often. —Gaylene Anderson, Sandy, Utah

2 packages (1/4 ounce each) active dry yeast
1-1/2 cups warm water (110° to 115°)
1/2 cup warm 2% milk (110° to 115°)
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons plus 1/4 cup butter, softened, divided
1 teaspoon salt
4-1/2 to 5-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add the milk, sugar, 3 tablespoons butter, salt and 2 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. , Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes., Punch the dough down. Turn onto a floured surface; divide into 36 pieces. Shape each piece into a 6-in. rope. Place 2 in. apart on greased baking sheets. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 25 minutes. , Melt remaining butter; brush over dough. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and garlic salt. Bake at 400° until golden brown, 8-10 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks.

These are better than the ones served at pizza parlors! I usually have to make two batches, because they go so fast! I use my food processor to do the mixing.

Number Of Ingredients 13

2 ½ cups bread flour
3 teaspoons instant yeast
1 tablespoon white sugar
½ teaspoon salt
¾ teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon minced garlic
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon butter, softened
¼ cup hot water
½ cup milk
1 egg
¼ cup butter, melted
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Fit your food processor with a steel blade. Place the bread flour, yeast, sugar, salt, Italian seasoning, garlic, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan and softened butter in the processor; pulse to blend. Stir together hot water, milk and egg. Start the processor and slowly pour in the milk mixture into the feed tube until a ball forms around the blade. Run for 30 seconds to knead. Remove dough from processor and knead briefly by hand. Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 1 hour.
  • Deflate the dough, and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough into a 10x12 inch rectangle. Use a knife or pizza cutter to slice the dough lengthwise into ten strips, and then cut these strips in half. Brush tops of strips with 2 tablespoons melted butter, and sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. Cover, and let rise until nearly double, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Bake in preheated oven for 18 to 23 minutes, or until golden brown. Turn broiler on, and brush breadsticks with remaining melted butter and Parmesan cheese. Broil just until the cheese starts to turn light brown, about 2 to 3 minutes. Serve warm.

These are really good and easy to prepare. They have a nice crisp crust and we loved the addition of the garlic salt on top. You can make these any size you want, from thin to larger. Just adjust the cook time. From TOH made my way. Cook time does not include the time it takes for the dough to rise. The amount of servings depends on how large you make the breadsticks.

2 (1/4 ounce) packages active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water (110 to 115 degrees)
1/2 cup warm milk (110-115 degrees)
2 tablespoons sugar
6 tablespoons butter, divided and melted
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon instant minced garlic (McCormick)
3/4 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
4 1/2-5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt, for sprinkling on tops (to taste)

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit until bubbly, about 7-8 minutes.
  • Add the milk, sugar, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, 3 tablespoons butter, salt, and 2 cups flour.
  • Beat until smooth.
  • Stir in 1/4 cup parmesan cheese and enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  • Knead with bread hook for 7-8 minutes adding additional flour as needed.
  • Turn onto a floured surface and knead about 10-15 times.
  • Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top.
  • Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.
  • Punch the dough down and let it rest a couple of minutes.
  • For thin bread sticks, divide into 36 pieces.
  • (This is very versatile here. You can make them as small or as large as you want. I cut mine into 18 pieces for a larger breadstick).
  • Shape each piece into a 6 inch rope.
  • Place 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.
  • Cover and let rise until doubled, about 25-35 minutes.
  • Melt remaining butter and brush over the dough.
  • Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and garlic salt.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from pans to wire racks.

A small batch of Garlic Parmesan Breadsticks made in the Twister Jar of your BlendTec blender!

1/4 cup water (warm )
1 tsp active yeast (dry )
1 tsp sugar
1/8 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp olive oil
3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3 tbsp butter (melted, divided)
1/4 tsp garlic salt
1/8 tsp dried rosemary (crushed)
1/2 tbsp parmesan cheese (grated )

Steps:

  • Add the first 3 ingredients to the Twister Jar and place the Twister Lid on jar. Hold the Twister Lid and with other hand press "Pulse" 2 times and allow yeast to proof 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Add the salt, olive oil and flour in that order and place Twister Lid on jar. Hold Twister Lid and with other hand press "Pulse" 6 to 8 times until all the flour is incorporated and dough ball forms. Remember to turn Twister Lid counter-clockwise during blending.
  • Allow the dough to rise in the jar with the lid secure until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  • Remove dough from Twister Jar and divide into 4 equal size balls. Roll the balls into ropes and place in a lightly greased baking pan or on a baking sheet. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a small dish and brush the tops of the breadsticks. Lightly cover with a tea towel and let rise again until double in size.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes (or until golden brown) in a 375 degree F oven.
  • Combine the butter topping ingredients in a small bowl and brush over the breadsticks once they come out of the oven. Enjoy hot!

1-1/2 cups warm water (110° to 115°)
2 tablespoons sugar
3/4 cup butter, melted, divided
1/2 teaspoon salt
4-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
Garlic salt
Grated Parmesan cheese
Marinara or spaghetti sauce, warmed, optional

Steps:

  • In a bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar; let stand for 5 minutes. Add 1/2 cup butter, salt and 2 cups flour; beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes., Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; roll into a 24x10-in. rectangle. Cut dough in half lengthwise, then into 5-in. x 1-in. strips. Twist each strip and place 2 in. apart on greased baking sheets., Brush strips with remaining butter; sprinkle with garlic salt and Parmesan cheese. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 20 minutes., Bake at 350° for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pans to wire racks.
