With six children and two boarders, it seems I'm always cooking for a crowd. So, almost every recipe I use is doubled or tripled. This one is an updated version of the Sunday dinner my mother would have prepared. You can easily get it ready Sunday morning and let it cook while you're away at church. -Rebekah Brown, Three Hills, Alberta

8 chicken drumsticks, skin removed
Pepper to taste
1 can (10-1/2 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
1 envelope onion soup mix
1 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped or 1 teaspoon dill weed
1 can (4 ounces) mushroom stems and pieces, drained
Paprika
Cooked wide egg noodles, optional

Steps:

  • Place chicken in a single layer in a 13x9-in. baking dish. Sprinkle with pepper. Combine the soup, soup mix, sour cream, lemon juice, dill and mushrooms; pour over chicken. Sprinkle with paprika. , Bake, uncovered, at 350° until chicken is tender, 1 hour. If desired, serve over egg noodles and sprinkle with additional dill.

1 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup baby carrots
2 (10 3/4 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
1 (2 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon dill weed, chopped
1 (4 ounce) can sliced mushrooms, drained
1 onion, sliced into rings
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 (16 ounce) package angel hair pasta

Steps:

  • Place chicken in a single lay in in a 13" x 9" x 2" baking pan.
  • Sprinkle with black pepper.
  • Combine soup, soup mix, sour cream, lemon juice, dill and mushrooms; pour over chicken.
  • Sprinkle paprika over chicken.
  • Top with sliced onions.
  • Cook pasta according to pkg directions.
  • Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until chicken is tender.

3 pounds bone-in chicken pieces
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 cup milk
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon dry onion soup mix
1 teaspoon dried dill weed

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • Place the chicken pieces into the prepared baking dish. Pour the mushroom soup (undiluted), milk, and sour cream over the chicken. Season with onion soup mix and dill. No need to stir.
  • Bake for 1 1/2 hours in the preheated oven, or until the chicken is falling off the bone. The longer you can cook it, the better it will taste.
