- In any glass you can find, combine rum and apple cider. Use ice if it is available, if not whatever. Make the drink anyway. Makes 1 cocktail. Refill glass as needed to help you survive your holiday functions. Note this drink will work in any situation where there is sparking apple cider (not just family affairs). And if there isn't any sparkling apple cider around, well just drink your spiced rum straight from the flask. We won't tell.
TOASTED CIDER
Steps:
- Heat the cider in a large pot over medium heat until it starts to simmer. Add 3 strips of orange zest, the orange juice, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spice and stir. Bring to a simmer then turn the heat down to low to keep it hot, but not simmering. Heat for 5 minutes to allow all of the flavors to meld together before serving.
- Serve hot in heatproof mugs with a shot of spiced rum, if desired.
FROSTY SPARKLING APPLE CIDER

- Place 4 mugs in the freezer for at least 30 minutes to get nice and frosty.
- In a pitcher, stir together 3 1/4 cups apple cider and the cranberry juice. (Reserve the remaining cider for Round 2 Recipe German Dumpling Soup and Online Round 2 Recipe Cabbage and Pear Slaw) Pour into the chilled mugs and top with the sparkling water.
- Add 1 ounce spiced rum to each drink if desired.
SPARKLING CIDER

- Combine the apple cider and whiskey in a small pitcher. Fill the champagne glasses 2/3 up with the cider and whiskey mix. Top each glass with sparkling wine and garnish with a few frozen cranberries.
WASSAIL

- Fill highball or chimney glass with ice. Add spiced rum, dark rum. Add sparkling cider to the top.

Slice the apples into matchsticks rather than the cubes for a more traditional rustic sangria, and then I added some pomegranate seeds for a stunning presentation and a nice touch of tartness.
