SPICY GRILLED TURKEY BURGERS

Spicy Grilled Turkey Burgers image

I'd never tried ground turkey meat before. I got curious when our small grocery store down the road got some in and I just had to try it. I came up with this recipe through a magazine I had that my (of all people) gastro doctor suggested. It's called EatingWell and it has healthy recipes. Some of them are frankly off the wall, but this one wasn't bad.

Categories     Poultry

Time 20m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb ground turkey
2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 dash allspice
1 teaspoon oil
4 buns (I prefer onion buns from the bakery)

Steps:

  • Preheat the grill.
  • Mix together, but don't overmix, the burger ingredients and brush with oil.
  • Place on the grill when hot and grill until the center is no longer pink.
  • Place on warmed buns and top with any burger fixin's. I tried mayo and dill pickles and that was pretty good.

GRILLED TURKEY BURGERS

Grilled Turkey Burgers image

I love to serve these burgers up on a hot day! I enjoy turkey burgers much more than beef burgers. :-) For a jucier burger, try not to use the leanest ground turkey. The leaner the turkey, the drier your burgers will be.

Provided by love4culinary

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 32m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 1/2 lbs ground turkey
1/2 cup gruyere cheese, finely grated
4 scallions, thinly sliced
1/4 cup dried breadcrumbs (may need to add more)
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
2 cloves garlic, minced
salt and pepper, to season
olive oil, to oil grill

Steps:

  • First you will want to heat your grill to HIGH.
  • In a bowl, combine your turkey with grated cheese with a fork.
  • Then add the scallions, breadcrumbs, garlic, and mustard.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Then gently form turkey mixture into four patties, approximately 1 inch thick.
  • If you have trouble forming patties, you may need to add more breadcrumbs; it really depends on the amount of moisture that your meat contains.
  • Lightly oil your grill and place patties on the hottest point of your grill, and sear them until they are browned*this will take approximately 1-2 minutes on each side* Move the patties to a"cooler" part of the grill, and continue grilling until they are cooked through, aproximately 5-10 minutes on each side.
  • I serve these on buns (i grill my buns a little!), tomato, lettuce, and some enjoy pickles on them!

TURKEY BURGERS (JUICY & FLAVORFUL ... - ONCE UPON A CHEF

From onceuponachef.com
  • Remove the sausage meat from the casings. The best way is to use kitchen shears to cut through the casings and then peel them away from meat. Place the sausage meat in a large bowl along with the ground turkey, pepper, Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard. Use your hand to mix together until well combined. The mixture will seem quite wet; that's okay. Form the meat into 8 even patties about ½-inch thick. Place on a foil-lined baking sheet and refrigerate until ready to cook.
  • Clean the grill and preheat to high. To grease the grill, lightly dip a wad of paper towels in vegetable oil and, using tongs, carefully rub over the grates several times until glossy and coated. Place the turkey burgers on the grill and cook for five minutes, covered, until nice grill marks form. Flip and continue to cook, covered, for 3-5 minutes more, until the burgers are cooked through. Heat the buns on the grill, assemble the burgers, and serve.
  • Freezer-Friendly Instructions: The uncooked burgers can be frozen for up to three months. (Freeze the burgers on a baking sheet or plate so their shape sets, then transfer them to a sealable plastic bag for easy storage.) Defrost the burgers overnight in the refrigerator prior to serving and then cook as directed.

  • In a large bowl, combine turkey, barbecue sauce, onion, bread crumbs, garlic, seasoning salt and pepper just until combined.
  • Form into 4 large patties (they will shrink as they cook so you want to make them slightly larger than your buns), and place on a plate or baking sheet in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours or in the freezer for 30-60 minutes (or see above for steps to freeze and store frozen). This will ensure they don't fall apart during grilling.
